  1. Since I don't own an airbrush, I've been using a compressed air canister and Testors model paint-works great but the Testors colors are very limited. Anyone know of another source for model paint with more colors. I've tried createx, but it's very thin and doesn't cover very well, along with taking forever to dry. The Testors paint dries in minutes.
  2. Just finished painting and clearcoating a Rapala XRap in a custom color for a body of water I fish. Will the Devcon 2 Ton affect the action of the bait(sink instead of suspend) or is the weight minimal and won't affect it?
  3. I've read quite a few posts on how to paint scales on a bait. Let me tell you this: I use mesh fabric I bought at Wal Mart and put it in an embroidery hoop fastened in a vise and it makes for beautiful scale patterns on crankbaits. It's much easier than trying to wrap the mesh around the bait and hold it while you spray it. All you have to do is hold the bait behind the mesh and spray it-it works like a charm! I have a few embroidery hoops here at my store if anyone is interested in purchasing one. Kickerfish.
  4. I've noticed that some of you guys put red hooks on both the front & the back of your baits. I learned something awhile back and I listened to Scott Rook talk about this subject this past weekend. Putting a red hook on the back defeats the purpose of using red hooks period. You want the fish to chase the front hook so that he gets both hooks in him, thus less chance of losing the fish. Just my 2 cents worth.
  5. I think I've discovered a way to put my company name on my baits. I did one last nite and it turned out pretty nice-I'll post a picture when I get a chance. In a nutshell, here's how I did it: Bought some clear labels (Avery #15660), went into Microsoft word and printed on a template for this label, my company name in the smallest size available(8, I believe). I was able to print 12 to a label. After it dries, just use a razor blade to cut it out and place it on the bait before you clearcoat it. If anyone needs help with this, I'd be glad to walk you through it. Kickerfish.

    Bob's Craw

I had a guy in Oklahoma who wanted me to match a Bomber color in this bait, so I painted it for him. I wish I was better at taking pictures, but he's already ordered (4) of them. I hope it works on his select body of water-it's the color he wanted.
  7. Is there anything I can soak my brush in after I'm done putting my Devcon on so that I can re-use the brush, or should I just figure on throwing the brush away every time?
  8. Hey guys, I have my classic on Pickwick the last week of March and have never been there. Anybody here fished it that might be able to help a guy out? Thanks in advance.

    Ruby Craw

This is another picture of the "ruby craw" taken from a little further away.

    "Olive Craw"

This is a Bandit 300 that I painted in an "olive craw" color. Please tell me what you think as I'm new at this.
  11. I just posted a picture of a bait I painted in the gallery titled "ruby craw". You can see how bad the picture is. Maybe I just need a better camera. I currently have a little Kodak C310.

    Ruby Craw

The picture doesn't do this bait justice because I have a bad camera. This is a Bandit 200 that I repainted because I don't like their red craw color scheme. This should be a good spring bait for me on a particular body of water I fish.
  13. Hey guys, great site. I've just started painting cranks and have actually gotten pretty good at it thanks to a lot of help from this site. My question is: how do you guys take good quality pictures of your baits? I'm no photographer, but I do have a digital camera and can't seem to get a good clear picture. Maybe it's the lighting, I don't know but I've tried with a flash, without a flash, etc. Please help.
