  1. Thanks for the advice everyone, sounds like a carolina rig is the way to go. Metalhead I didn't mean optimum swimbaits because they are a joke, Optimum also makes a bunch of huge worms and lizards and thats what I was talking about. Thanks, Norcalbassin
  2. Hi, I've kinda been thinking of starting to fish big worms(10"-16"). So I was wondering if anyone has any recomendations on how to fish them or what worms to use, straight tail ribbon tail doesn't matter. One idea I had was using those optimum snakes and slow rolling them on top near heavy cover. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Norcalbassin
  3. Thats a great idea. I never thought about using a soldering iron. I've just been using a knife and a lighter. Norcalbassin
  4. Palmetto I don't know what size wire the hangers are because I'm only doing this to factory baits such as lucky craft and speed traps. I've never broken a Worth, only staightened them and I've only broken factory rings. I'm tough on baits because I fish 50 or 65lb braid with a flouro leader, around heavy cover. I do use owner hyper wires on a few baits but they're just to big for some baits. Dean it's nice to see that someone else destroys baits too. Agian, everyone thanks for the help. Norcalbassin
  5. Doomdart, after messing up a few baits I realize that I do need some lighter split rings. I have in fact straightened and broken both hooks and split rings. I've decided on VMC outbarbs for hooks but I don't know alot about split rings so thats why I'm having a problem. I have tried Worth though and have found them to be almost useless, every one that I have put on a bait has straightened or or just flat broke. All I'm looking for something thats not going to fall apart on me when I've got a fish on. Thanks, Norcalbassin
  6. I'm stuck. I'm working on swapping out all the hardware on my hard baits and can't decide on a split ring. They're all just average size bass baits so I'm having a hard time finding a good, strong split ring that will fit. I like owner hyper wires for bigger stuff, but can't find them small enough. I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me out. Thanks, Norcalbassin
  7. Palmetto, Federal, Hevi-Shot, and Kent,(Remington might too) all make shotshells with tungsten shot. Norcalbassin
  8. Shot shells for sure, I believe the stuff labled hevi-shot is tungsten. Try places that sell reloading stuff you might just be able to find the shot itself, though I don't think it's very common. Norcalbassin
  9. Wow, I'm impressed. Something like that would kill em out here on the Delta. Great carving by the way. Norcalbassin
  10. BassSniper, I tried the knife thing at first too. Sounds like we got the same results. A little fine grit sandpaper like I said will help take out the sratches and gouges. Norcalbassin
  11. Try 300 grit sandpaper and a little steel wool after to smooth it out. That usually works for me, but if they are Bill Lewis?(I think thats the brand that sells RatLTraps) they may have a foil insert in them too. Norcalbassin
  12. I have seen red hooks make a difference on topwaters, but that only happened under a certain set of conditions and outside of that one time I've seen red hooks mostly have a negative effect. As for what type of trebles, Owner trebles with cutting point are great they're very strong and extremely sharp and don't lose their edge. Norcalbassin
  13. Wow! Great lure, I really like the shape. Can't wait to see it finished. Norcalbassin
  14. Wow, thanks for the info peoples. Could anyone suggest another clearcoat for smaller baits? Thanks, Norcalbassin
  15. Has anyone tried the Seal Coat from Component Systems that Stamina carries I'm looking for something to clear baits with other than Devcon. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Devcon is to thick to use on bass sized cranks. Thanks, Norcalbassin
