  1. Tally, like you and many others I used to be on here a lot. Used to custom build my lures from cedar and white pine boards, turn them on the lathe, cut lexan for lips and custom paint. The old gentleman who taught me passed away years ago, with that and as you put it “burning out” a bit, I lost interest in it too. But as you noted, I’m getting the bug again. Hopefully I’ll be on here more too as I noticed it’s been 9-10 years since my last post. Nice to see a couple familiar names. Scott

    My first lure

Nice looking job on that there plug, congrats on it's ability to catch fish. Now the madness begins!!!!
  3. Where did you get the prop bearings? I've been looking for those to no avail. Do those sink or are they topwater? It looks great!! Scott
  4. Vinny, The website is Fish Decoys, Wooden Fish Spearing Decoy Lures by C.M. WIGGLE BAIT Co. Scott
  5. Whew!!! False alarm. I rebooted my computer tonight and low and behold everything is back to normal. Don't know what happened, but I'm a happy camper now. Can't say that the other morning tho.
  6. the most popular brand name of this product is called AZEK. Due to popular demand, they started making one side smooth and the other side textured (like ruff lumber). This is due to homebuilder demand for a ruff texture on trim boards (this product was invented for exterior usage on home building to make wood rot extinct) Be forwarned it comes in 18' lengths only, and most places will not cut it, and it is EXPENSIVE!!! Try a local lumber yard instead of the Big Box stores, they should have it, and may be more inclined to cut a piece for you. We sell it where I work, and we don't cut it very often, but do make an exception now and then Scott
  7. O.K. guys, I need HELP!!!! Looks like my computer crashed erasing all my bookmarks. I had several websites saved from info I got from you guys. I am needing two very badly. One had ordering info for the 2 part lure box, like the old time lure boxes. The other was a web site for fiber optic rods for making eyes for lures. Any help would be worth the price of a if we ever meet up. Thanks again in advance Scott
  8. I always clear over my eyes, I think it just helps to keep them on. I also put a decal of my logo on my baits and clear over that too. Scott
  9. I've got a 26,000 gallon test tank that works pretty good. Only thing is my wife gets kinda mad when I'm testing crankbaits and she's trying to swim. She gets pretty mad when I snag her bikini top:eek:

Nice work, great fire tiger pattern. Scott
  11. Two very well done baits benton. If I may ask, what brand and color or colors of paint did you use to make that pink? Very nice work. Scott

    EYEOPENER

Jaraal, You never cease to amaze me with your work!
  13. Ace hardware sells it. I use polyurethane to coat my lures, 3 coats, so far never had a problem with it.
  14. You should just unscrew the needle nut at the end of the needle, push down on the button you use to shoot paint and ease it out. Try unscrewing the tip nuts also to see if they may be clogged with something. Usually a very easy process. Use acetone or lacquer thinner, they will not harm any parts, I use them all the time.
  15. Fantastic thread Birdman, thanks very much. Now I got something to do Saturday, it's supposed to rain, so can't go fishing!

    Pikie

diemai, yes the lip is a little larger, it is the closest thing I could find, and it does wiggle a little more than original. It looks good in the pool, haven't fished it yet as it is just beginning to warm up here a little. Thanks for the reply, don't know it you remember but I posted a pikie question a couple months back when I was making it, and you were the first to respond. You asked for pictures then, but I just learned how to post pictures the other night, so I'll be posting some of my other baits shortly. Scott
  17. NJ Tackle - Plug building supplies, lips, weights, wire, tin lures, lead jigs, wooden plugs and other saltwater fishing tackle. may have some. They are in New Jersey and seem to specialize in striper plug building supplies. I have order a few things from them and have been very pleased. I ordered 20 of a product and the guy sent me 25.
  18. esox I don't know if it will turn on a lathe or not. I found a "scrap" piece in the warehouse this morning to play with in the shop. I thought of turning it, but my first reaction is it will not. The reason I think this is the outside has a hard coating, and the inside is sort of "foamy" (for a lack of a better word. Is it just me, I can tell you anything, but try and type it on here and can't get it out?) and I think it will just go to crap. I am going to try tho, I'll post results. You should be able to buy at Home Depot, I work at an Ace Hardware with a lumber yard, so we stock some. Be aware of sticker shock tho, it ain't cheap. Also beware, and this is not important in lure building, but it is not structural, it must be supported by something else. The product your friend used for his deck (hollow on the inside) IS a product used for decks (it is a different product for different usage, and it contains wood fibers) Hope this helps, Scott

    Water Scout

Thanks for all the positive posts guys, they made my day, and I needed a positive word today. diemai, I have a duplicator on my lathe, so all my baits I make on the lathe are exactly the same. I suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder so if things aren't exact, it drives me NUTS! JSC, if I could find those little fins, I would buy them and put them on, but so far I haven't been able to locate them hazmail, don't know about them working on the sand flats, but they work great on the grass flats in Florida!
  21. The manufactures rep told us in our sales meeting it was pure PVC, no wood fibers. In fact when used on a house in long runs (end to end joints) it MUST be glued together with their glue (pvc glue will work as they told us so, theirs does not yellow) because it will (and I have seen this first hand) shrink in the joints if not glued. I just went out in the warehouse and looked at the stock we have, the Azek is stamped "Azek" on the ends and is smooth on both sides. We have another brand of PVC board in stock and it is "textured" on one side. I have seen this other brand of PVC board manufactured as it is made in my home town. The company who makes it also makes pvc pipe in the same building.

    Water Scout

These are my versions of the Clark Water Scouts. I used one like the green/pink to catch a 38" Redfish on in October. Took 45 minutes to land the brute. Thanks for looking. Scott

    Pikie

My version of the Pikie minnow. Mine is the top one, the original is on the bottom. Thanks for looking. Scott
  24. Mark, AZEK is pvc board, there is no wood fiber in it, is is pure plastic. I sell it where I work, it was invented for the housing market for rot proof cornice material. Trex deck boards and similar material does have wood fiber and plastics in it, but AZEK is pure pvc. Scott
