  1. Does anyone know where to get this mold to make crankbait belly weights with lead and wire?

Or is there a video out there somewhere that shows directions on how to make one of these molds?

I've tried making one out of RTV but the wire would not stay verticle in the mold when pouring in the lead.

Any info on this would be great!..  I wish Do-it made this mold so I could just buy it and their wireform inserts for it..

  2. Thanks Ben..  I know they are dangerous.. I would mainly just like to have more pictures of his machine, and maybe some measurements.  I actually have a machine drawn out on paper but want to look at others to make sure i am doing it correctly so i dont waste time and money on a redo.

  3. Sorry to bring up this old thread..

I would love to make this rocking beam dupicator.  Can someone PM me the specs, detailed pics and blueprints and parts list?  Or if anyone has any other ideas on duplicating a bass plug ( like a bagleys B2 or Bombers ) I'd like to try to build one.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks!

  4. I have good results with Americana, Apple Barrell and Anita's crafts.  There are tons of colors and if you thin it with water and add a little future to it, you can lay down some nice paintjobs..As Brent said, clean the airbrush though as it can make parts sticky...

  5. I'd really like to know how to do this photo finishing.  I can edit pics with Gimp or Paint.net and the like.  How do you do the process?  Do you need a color inkjet or can a laser printer work?

    Thanks for sharing the knowledge.

  6. I just did a test dip with Duplicolor no mix auto clear. Dip, wait twenty minutes, dip, wait twenty minutes again and one last slower dip and let it hang by the bill all night. Then wet sand with 2000 grit. The guy at Advance Auto paints cars and said that should give a nice finish. Its still hanging and I'll pull it off the drip rack later today.

  7. Good question!..   I've recently cut my own plug out of balsa and needed a top coat seal.  I tried laquer and did a 5 slow dipping session.  I let the lure sit, over night and it was still tacky, so I hit it with my hair dryer and bubbled up a little bit.  There is a video on youtube of Tim Earick making his crank baits, and I'd love to know what the stuff is in the jar he is dipping the blanks into.

  8. I'm new to bait making and painting, but i just mix my glitters in with my epoxy.  I don't use a whole lot of each color so it doesnt glob and i stir it really well.  when I brush it on, i make sure it's evenly spaced, then I put the bait on my horizontal drywheel over night ( made with a bbq rotisseiri motor).  I've had pretty good luck with that thus far.

I may check into the spary gun idea.  Sounds like something to try with an old airbrush that's in the junk drawer. :yay:

  9. A video would be great. You rock!.. What do you use to make the color so deep / glossy looking? I was going to use just spray on clear coat but I also heard someone say they use some type of epoxy.

I took a junk bait and painted it white with a rattle can last night. I need a new airbrush as the el-cheapo that I purchased will not allow me to make really fine lines for gills, I could make a stencil though.. I think I'll check ebay or somewhere for a better airbrush..

  10. Hello,

I am looking for the correct color recipe for the following crankbait.

Bandit 200 Series # 242L Old light. From what i was told, Bandit quit making this color a year or so ago and I cant find it anywhere. Luckily I have 2 that are in good shape and 1 that is still in the box. Bandit does have a new Old Light but the number for it is 241. The difference is that the 242 has a red fading into pink on the belly and the new one, # 241 is yellow. I have tried to paint a 241 to look like the 242 but I cant get the color correct. I was going to just strip it down and airbrush it but I need the base, mid and top coat color combinations. If anyone has this, please let me know..

    Thanks

  11. Here is what I did when I learned to use a baitcast reel.

Pull off enough line for a good cast, then take electrical tape and wrap it around the spool. This way when you backlash, it will only go down as deep as the cast and not down deep into the reel. When you feel the need, take off your training wheels, I mean tape. I hope this helps..
