I am thinking about trying to make a jigging rap for icefishing, but not really sure about how to actually make the mold or what ever it is necessary to make one. I am tired od spending $5-$6 on a piece of lead with a tail and treble hooks. lol

So what are your guys favorite colors to use. Also when you guys paint. do you normally use it right out of the bottle, or do you guys mix it with other colors to get your preferred color? I am also interested in what types of paint do you guys use?

I am trying to buy jig hooks in bulk but I don't know what the description really means. I can't Find anything on these descriptions online. I am trying to pour some standard jigs in sizes 8, 10, and 12, but I don't know what they mean by: 1X-SHORT 1X-STRONG X-SHORT SHANK X-LONG ROUND BEND 1X-LONG FORGED Also has anyone here dealt with captain hooks discount warehouse? How well did you like them?

Can I use any type of steel wire or does it have to specifically be made for tackle making. I am planning on pouring some jigging spoons and I want to make the wire into an oval shape. I notice that wire that was sold specifically for lure making was a lot more expensive than regular wire.

Where is a good place to buy wire, What is your prefered thickness, and is there a specific type of stainless wire that I need to get to use them geared towards jigging spoons and through wire construction? would I possibly just get some at home depo, or are they expensive?

I make my own jigs for icefishing, and I do very well on them. I also like to use jigging raps too, but they are a lot more expensive than a regular jig. At 5 dollars a piece I thought I would try to make My own. I have seen some home made ones that looked good. I am having a hard time locating the special hooks for them Does anyone knw where I could get those hooks?

I am very new to making lures, I tried to carve one today out of balsa and it was quite difficult. I was watching these video's on youtube and the guys seem like it is no problem for them to slice through the balsa when hand carving these lures. Is there a different type of balsa that I don't know about or is it the type of knife I am using. I am using a pretty sharp pocket knife but I have a hard time cutting against the grain.

I do not water trap. But I'm thinking either i am to close or there is to much paint coming out. I am not pulling the trigger to far back. It happening while I'm just trying to get a line. If I thin it out with water would that make it even runnier?

while i am painting my paint keeps running. It "blows" out and spreads like roots. i am running my tank at 20-30 psi. I wm using th opaque waterbased colors. Also when the epoxy is applied to the bait does the waterbased paints begin to smear?

I tried to make a small mold for a plastic tail of a ice fishing jig. the ones coustomjigs'n spins uses on there shrimpos and ratsos. The problem is that the plastic is not running all teh way to the tail and is not filling the mold up.
