  1. Thanks, Glenn. And where could I pick that stuff up?
  2. I'm getting a bit frustrated trying to find D2T. I've been to Walmart, Home Depot, and the local hardware store. It's all Loctite epoxy and Gorilla that they sell. Where can I get the stuff?!
  3. Just getting into this. I've done about a dozen musky baits. Finish coat results are decent, but I'm not satisfied. Been using CS Lure & Jig Finish. I'll be getting D2T tomorrow for my next batch. Here's my question: With my 10" jakes (about all I'm doing for lures at this point), a drying wheel would be pretty big. So far I've just been hanging my lures by the nose eye. Will hanging be okay with the D2T? Or do I need to create a drying wheel to get a good result?
  4. I'm going to give this reel painting this a try. For my first try, I've got a Pinnacle Erica which is maybe 5 or 6 years old. It's hardly been used because it got dropped in the water and the chrome started to peel off. So I always hated how it felt in my hand. My question is do I need to peel off all the chrome on this reel? Or can I just get it off the side of the reel where it's already peeling. Maybe better asked, Can I paint over chrome? The body and one side of the reel have no peeling at all, so I'm hoping I won't have to peel off all the chrome on those two areas. If the answer is that I do NOT have to peel it off, do I wet sand it with 400 or so grit?
  5. Okay. I'm ready to dig in and try this. I've got a junker to try it on. I've got an airbrush. Does anyone have a step by step of the process once the reel is taken apart? I'm wondering about prep - sanding? What grit? What about masking? Mask inside section of reel once spool is pulled out? Remove the worm gear, too, right? What kinds of paints to use? I like the metallics or glitter paints. Any harder to use? What kind of clear coat? Any tips and pointers along the way? It would just be nice to have something to guide me through the process rather than pick up a piece here or there. Thanks, guys.
  6. That first post of this thread had the handle still on the reels during the painting process. How many of you guys do that? I assumed you would need to have that all completely removed.
  7. It sounds like you've got too much epoxy on the lure. The lite build is probably a good choice, but you'll still probably need to wick a bit of the excess off the lure. Here's what I do to get a good even finish: take a brush and lightly run it the length of the lure. Wipe off brush, rotate the lure just a tad and run the brush the length of the lure again. Repeat this until you have run the brush over the entire lure. This will remove all excess epoxy and will leave a nice, glassy coat on the lure. You may still need to give it a touch of heat if air bubbles form, but this should eliminate all clumping. Good luck.
  8. I've seen pics in the past of guys' reels that they have painted. They look awesome. I'd like to give it a try on a couple of my reels that have some minor, cosmetic boat rash. I've got an airbrush on the way. What kind of paint to use? Clear coat, as well, I'm assuming - what kind? What about prep? Masking? This is my first post here. I'm sure I'll have many to come.
