  1. Great information, Thanks guys.
  2. Thanks for all the help guys. Great information. Dan
  3. OK, So I'm not the only one getting the cold shoulder attempting to get "crank bait parts" .15 cents a lip sounded good. I went to McMasters Carr and they seem to have a lot of types and thicknesses of Micarta, I'm not sure of the thickness but the stuff on custom cranks that I buy is pale green and pretty thin. (Any thoughts?) If you could point me in the right direction as far as micarta goes that would be great. Dan
  4. Hello, I want to buy lips (Lexan and Fiber board) and belly weights for crank baits, does anyone have a link other than Janns? I have done many searches on the net but have come up empty, I did find one site that has just what I want but they will not reply or answer the phone. Thanks Dan
  5. It sounds interesting. [ quote name=RayburnGuy' date='10 May 2010 - 01:14 PM' timestamp='1273511650' post='145980] Hey Dave, I think what he was talking about is a sanding drum with a guide bearing much like what you see on a flush cutting router bit.
  6. Hi Michael, Do you still have this picture aroound? I would really like to see what you are talking about. Thanks Dan[ quote name=michael merrill' date='06 March 2006 - 11:23 AM' timestamp='1141658639' post='44819] BBB, Another option for profiling your own creations is a template/pattern following type drum sander. It mounts on a drill press with the drill press table nearly flush to the bottom of the bearing that mounts on the lower portion of the drum.I have attached a pic. to help visually understand the concept. First, one would need to make a pattern to their own liking/standards using 3/8" or 1/2" stock( something fairly hard). Now you have a pattern to follow, but you need a way to fasten it temporarily and securely to the actual wood blank.I have drilled three tiny holes about 1/4" in from the edge of the pattern around the profile. Then, take needles or small pins and glue them into the holes with about 1/8" or so sticking out.Try to be sure that the location of these holes places them where they will be completely removed during the sanding/shaping part of the process. If not, the the remaining tiny holes sometimes create air bubble issues during finish.Lastly, push your balsa blank straight down onto the pins. This will hold the blank in place while it is sanded with the pattern following drum. The pattern rides along the bottom bearing while the drum accurately reproduces the blank above it. This enables you to reproduce the exact same profile over and over while you tinker with the hardware, lip, line tie, and weighting placements of your creation.
  7. You mean to tell me there are other boards?
  8. Pete, That is a great idea, how in the world do you come up with this stuff?? I will do a search and try to find this tut you posted. Thanks everyone, I am having a great time learning. Dan
  9. These are all great ideas, I really thank you. I have read online of people putting the blanks in rock tumblers or concrete mixers with some sort of media. I'm not even sure how that would work. Anyone have any thoughts on that process? Not I have a concrete mixer laying around. Dan
  10. Hi, These are a single piece of balsa 1/2 inch thick, I am not doing through wire yet. I cut the blank out with a band saw and kind of hold it in a spring clamp while sanding. The router sounds good but I have no idea how I would hold it. Dan
  11. Hello, I'm having trouble getting my bait even after cutting out the blank, I am cutting it out with a band saw and then attempting to round the edges So far I have tried cutting a strip of sandpaper and using a shoeshine motion on the lure. It's turning out OK but not the best. Could anyone offer some methods or tips? This seems simple but I'm having a tough time with it. Thanks in advance. Dan
  12. Really nice, looks Pro to me.
  13. Hello, I am wondering what thickness of wood would be a good starting point for a flat sided crank? I think if you start too thin you would risk cracking the wood while drilling for the belly weight. Thanks Dan
  14. Hi Nova, Please post the book method, sounds cool. Dan
  15. Are you talking about Hazmail's "Spider" Note to Hazmail - Please let me know if you ever make one of those for sale, I am not talented enough to put it together.
  16. Hey guys, I'm not sure what to do at this point, I ordered the PS900 and and a 3mm tip a couple of weeks ago. The brush came but not the 3mm tip. I placed the order with Clint over the phone and he gave me a great deal but I think I need that tip as the 2mm is for fine detail. I have placed several calls, sent emails to NBI, and private messages through this site and I can not get a reply at all. I am at a loss as to what I should do. Clint seems like a very nice guy, I just don't know what is going on. Very frustrating. Dan
  17. Hey Dave, How do you make that loose barrel twist? It looks like it was made in a machine.
  18. Thanks for the tips guys, I am having trouble getting the hang of this. The good news is when I mess up the paint wipes off easy and I try again. Does anyone know of a video of someone airbrushing a lure? I would like to see the correct way as I'm sure I'm doing it wrong. Thanks again. Dan
  19. I used a net sponge (not sure what you call them) from Wally-world. $1 goes a long way. If you like it and have trouble finding them I will send you one. Dan I found the name - Nylon Mesh Sponge, they sell them at Walmart for .99 but I have only found one size. The link shows a pic. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0024ORWRE
  20. Hello, I just got the AIR-PRO PS900 and need some pointers on how to use it. I am using Createx paint and the .2mm tip. pressure set at 40Lbs I am attempting to paint the entire surface, or at least the top half. How close should I be to the lure I'm painting? When I get close it blows the paint off the lure. When I back off it takes three passes before I see any color. I'm sure this is me and my slow learing curve. Do I need the .3mm tip? Any help would be great. Dan
  21. I spoke with ClintWilder and ordered the PS900 and an extra 3mm tip, great price at around $50 Clint seems like a great guy to order from, I would suggest contacting him if you are thinking about an airbrush. I have never touched an airbrush before so I hope the learning curve is not a big deal. Dan
  22. Try the plastic sponges they sell at Wally World for .99 cents, they work great.
