  1. Thanks Bob, Do you adjust the air pressure often? I was thinking you set it at a low pressure (40Lbs) and forgot about it.
  2. Hello, I have never used an airbrush but I am going to order one, I'm not sure what I need. I am looking at the Airpro PS800 and the PS900. What does a MAC valve do and is it worth it? Any advice or information would be great. Thanks Dan
  3. I am using thinned white enamel and dipping. It seems to be holding up pretty well.
  4. I'm just wondering what type of log or notebook you keep while making your lures, anyone use Microsoft products or just a regular notebook. What data do you list, and do you add photos. I'm just looking for ideas. Dan
  5. Congrats on taking the plunge, I'm still on a rattle can allowance.
  6. Thanks for all of the tips guys, I am working through it and it's going well.
  7. Hello, I'm dipping red cedar lures in flat white enamel (Base coat)and hanging them to dry. The problem is I get a thick ring of paint at the bottom of the lure. I am using a paint thinner and I'm not sure if I got it too thin or need to thin it further. I have also put them on a turner and get thick runs in an otherwise smooth coat. Any suggestions? Thanks Dan
  8. Thanks for all of the info guys, really great.
  9. Hey guys, Great info, thanks for the help. Dan
  10. Hello, I am working with 7/8" X 7/8"X 2.5" wood blocks and am having trouble putting a centerline on the block to mark for eye holes. When I drill my eye hold they are always a little off. I am using a drill press and clamps so I think the problem is me. Part of this is due to my eye problems and part of it is me being green with woodworking. Does anyone have any tricks or tips on getting a centerline down the length of the block? When I finally do get one close to perfect I would like to make a jig or template out of Plexi-glass (or something) to repeat the locations. Thanks in advance. Dan
  11. Hi Dave, Thanks for your post, I'm just starting out and want to get off on the right foot. I have this compressor . Makita Air Compressor - 2.5 HP I'm not sure if it will work or I will need to buy one just for an air brush. Thanks again. Dan
  12. Hello, I am attempting to choose an air brush and after doing some research on the Aztek I thought I would post this thread and see if I could get some more information from people who actually use it for lures. It seems like a beginners tool that could obtain pro results from what I have read, I just don't know if I should get it or save my money and get something else. Would you guys please chime in and give the what you think are the pros and cons? Thanks Dan
  13. Hi All, I am making plugs from cedar and I am wondering if anyone uses a template for hook and hardware placement. I am trying to find the best way to put the hooks / hook holder in the same place on lures of the same size. And I'm wondering how I am going to get the hooks centered every time. Any thoughts would be great. Dan
  14. Hello, I just wanted to say thanks for all the tips, I will try a few things and see what works. I will also post any relevant information I come up with. Dan
  15. Thanks guys, I went about this backwards, I posted the question then searched. It seems the trick is to find a floor poly that does not yellow, I bet the stuff could be thined out with acitone* (can't spell) I will keep looking. Dan
  16. Is anyone using Polyurethane ? Like the hardwood floor type. I think it's about $20 a gallon and is made for wood. If someone has tried it please let me know the downside, it seems like it may be worth a shot. Dan
  17. Hi All, My name is Dan Campbell, I am 35 years old. I live in Virginia near the Shenandoah valleyShenandoah Valley of Virginia . I am married with one child, she is 11 months old. I work in the IT field as a Tech systems specialist.(Screwdriver boy) and I love fishing. I do not have a boat yet but still rent one when I can and spend the day on the water. I would love to make antique style lures as a hobby, I just move really slow because I don't have much free time. If I can ever help anyone with anything IT related I would be happy to assist. Take care Dan
  18. Thanks for the Windex tip, would love to see the lures. Dan
  19. Hi Guys, Thanks for all of the great information, I did call grizzly yesterday and ask a few questions from their tech support. Between Grizzly and the great answers I got from all of you I feel better about my new lathe. Dan
  20. Mark, Thanks so much for the reply, I have not even turned it on yet. I just wanted to figure out how it worked. the lock nut was throwing me but I don't think it's actually a "Locknut" for the tapered arbor. I will put in a pice of stock and give it a try. Thanks again. Dan
  21. Hello, I just got a Grizzly mini lathe and the instructions seem a bit lacking, I have some questions about set up and thought maybe someone has the same lathe and could answer my novice questions. 1. The instructions state to "Tap" the live center and spur centers into the head and tail stock, What is the purpose of the locknut on the headstock? 2. I bought a chuck arbor and drill chuck, the arbor has a flat stub on the end, anyone know what this is for? 3. In changing from the live center to the drill chuck arbor, do I just "Tap" it out of the head stock? I'm sorry for the layman questions but I am stumped, I have read through the 3 pages of instructions but I don't seem to be getting it. The bottom line is I don't understand how the tooling works, or what the big nut on the headstock is for. Thanks in advance for any help. Dan This is my lathe : G9247 VS Mini Wood Lathe
  22. Cast, Thanks very much, I will take a look at the lumber yard. Dan
  23. Hi, Would you guys please post where you get your Cedar, I would like to buy some eastern red cedar but I am not having much luck searching on the web. Thanks Dan PS I would like to have some blocks 7/8" X 7/8" and 1"X1" to turn on my mini lathe. I have a table saw and can rip some boards down if I can find them.
  24. Thanks for the advice, I will only use untreated wood. I have a table saw that I am using to rip the boards with but I think I need a fine toothed blade to get the cuts looking better. I will check it out. Dan
