  1. Its a done deal, using the thinly sliced tape worked good, I finally was in the zone
  2. thanks for the tip, I just got frustrated there for a bit and walked away, lol I may not do the SG cause now lm concerned about the guide going crooked in dry mode. These little burgers are fun to wrap, lol
  3. I have the tape, and I have rubber bands. But when I get toward the tips where rubber bands don"t hold very good and tape is to big for the guides, would you see any harm in using a small dab of super glue for this part? I know they offer glue for this, but I have some tubes of superglue I'm wrapping micros
  4. Frank, does the tips pop out easy or not? Is it held in by O' rings? another question is how well can ya hold it when its two together like that? curious,
  5. Left it out in the shed last 30 days. Its flex coat and it isn"t suppose to freeze but, im sure it did. It separated but i shook it up and its back to milky white. doesn't look clumpy, and smells as strong as it should. So ya think its OK, this stuff tuffer than one freeze?
  6. This is what I mean ratstar, so much info hangen around, I completely forgot about http://rodbuilding.org/list.php?2 its Tom's site, the Author of your book your getten great place.
  7. Im trying to read ya here, so I still think ya still need the book http://www.amazon.com/Rod-Building-Guide-Spinning-Trolling/dp/1571882162/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1266368344&sr=8-1 also go to mudhole.com and watch a few of the videos they have on rod making
  8. theres guys that build rods next to nothen on tools. you got fancy tools and simple tools. I started off with some tool purchases and ended up making those same tools and love them better than store bought. this is the tools i started out with Tom Kirkmans rod build book, hand wrapper, reamer, pop cycle sticks, tooth picks, razor blades, brushes, metal file, sand paper, masking tape, grease pencil,. You should love it. It is a patient hobby, so if ya can relax with it then it might suite you, cause rushen thru a build shows. there is so much more info for ya, just be sure to hangout.
  9. gotcha matt, again appreciate it!

    Newbie

had that issue myself, i was stirring with a pop cycle stick, and too fast, they told me to change up to a butter knife or something metal and really slow down on th stirring, they had me also take the temp up to 375 and let it set, the air bubbles escape easier, this all solved my issue.
  11. yep exactly what has happen, in the blue highlite matt are you cutting the plug in half?
  12. I'm wanting to turn my butt handle end on the mandrel with the handle assembly and I need to find or make a butt plug, I have no measurment yet but at least .4375 to .625 size. Im wanting to keep the same match with the last rubber piece on the handle, I purchased the ones from mudhole and they are .25 inch and thats way to small, should i make one or is there someone that offers them in the sizes I need?
  13. Once again proof you can count on Matt who comes to the rescue He's correct tx, I have done two hand sands and wish not to do anymore, its fatiguing but it can be done, just watch taken too much off at a time, that's what usually happens, its a slow process so you try and think you can help it go faster and take out bigger scrapes, it only ends up worse. just take it slow and BE the cork handle
  14. did that once, just trying something differant
  15. Thanks for the tips matt, I'll look into the auto paint
  16. I would like to custom color some winding checks, I figure using epoxy(high build for thinner coats) If so how can I apply the color to the check with it on a surface(glass or card board) and it not bond itself to when dried? or should I attatch the check to the rod and apply color that way? Whats the trick?
  17. Thanks again Matt, I had a typo on there I meant to ask about the BLVAG instead of the BSVAG. I have used the high frames before on my builds, I was considering the BLVAG with the micros. Again Thanks for taking the time to reply, seems your always here for us
  18. I've got a build Im trying to put together and Im wanting to get a oppinion on which Alconite Concept guide to use with #4 micros. The FUJI BSVAG guides or the FUJI BYAG high frame guides?
  19. Matt do you by chance know what the MHX make up is? IM6 graphite (44 million modulus) or higher, I can't find info on it anywhere and I was wondering. I'm considering one of these for a next build, going for a worm rod. Also, I have mainly built all spinning rods and have over looked this Mag Bass series, can they be used as a spinning rods or is it for casting rods only??
  20. Thanks for the feed back Ed, and yea if ya get a chance post the pics of the rivets on how ya did, I for one will soak up the info and back to the baby-e, it definitely worked on me, I like the style it shows and the rigging, maybe I will try and pick one of those baits up next month and check them out hands on
  21. Was given a nice drill press today, so Im gonna set it up to do handles which will be awsome finally My hand made lathe was ok but it just didn't do it and I stopped, just bought parts to make my handles, but now I got this big boy, so Its gonna be cool Had to share here cause only fellow rod makers know how happy I'am
  22. yes, that was a great report, I haven't poured with any salt cause Im just not there yet. This was a good read for me, helps me understand the differences and why
  23. I never thought of the harder vs a softer plastic ?? That kinda makes sense to me for a newby lol. I'd like to buy a few and try, I'd like to try and stay with a product that has a mold for it & service, Its all hobbie stuff for me and my son. as for making a mold, I have never done that and at this point not intrested.
