  1. Just curious if anyone has worked out how to make these style of baits. Is it the same as the paddle tails. Do you have to glue the tail closed after you remove it from the knife.
  2. Congratulations I visits tackltour religiously and veiw thier results with a great deal of respect. You Baits looked amazing and was well deserving of an editors choice. Start ordering more supplies your orders are about to go through the roof
  3. Yeah was a little bit hessitant at sharing the idea at first. But after all i have learned from everyone here its only fair i give back. Is anyone keen on sharing how you get the scale pattern on your swim style paints. Is it just a matter of dipping once, spray painting on the pattern then dipping again in a clear coat?? I still have a few more ideas to extend on this technique. Bojon: Take a close look at the small bait and you will see its rigged on a light jig head
  4. Heres the finished product and the dipping stick. Baits are 2 3/4 inch and 4 1/2 inch
  5. Cant work out how to post photos Pink is pen to compare size Grey is my dipping stick shaped from a large nail (needs to be thin) Yellow is a small blob of cured soft plastic. Slide it onto the dipping stick Dip the rod verticly into the plastic past the blob of cured plastic. Wait till cools and slide off the finished lure. Slide lure down to tail. Green is the finished product Hope this makes sense
  6. Basicly what im trying to acheive is a hollow stick style plastic. I have tried dipping the head end first and sealing the tail. For some reason though the plastic doesnt drip down from the tail enough making the tail alot thicker than if you dip the tail first. Also by dipping the tail first you can drip plastic off the tail causing it to tapper off past the rod enabling an extremly thin solid section of the tail as seen in my diagram (black tail) Have also tried the squezing gluing the head but looks like crap lol. My latest idea is to make a 1 piece mold head section, lay the finished headles tube on the mold and then pour a head. I forsee a cold pour line though where the head meets the body. So far the lures look amazing if i can just work this last section out Will post some pics tonight to show you Will post some pics.
  7. Have been experimenting with tubes. I have been making a tubes using a taperd dipping rod. I have been dipping holding from the head (thickest part). This enabels a nice thin solid tail. Unfortunalty though this means the frount of the head is open and hollow. I have been trying to find a way to make the head solid as i want to use these with a jig head After i remove the tube from the rod i have been diping the tip of the head in the plastic trying to seal it. The problem is though no mater how many times i dip the head in it wont seal. A bubble forms at the head, a only a thin film covers the head. Even if i dip the head 3 times only a thin film is left and this also bulks out the head to much which i dont want Im sure this is hard to understand so i have attached a pic. The Grey is the hollow sections. The Black is the solid sections. And the red on the head is what i want to be solid
  8. Any other Aussies on this board. I have been looking for another brand of soft plastic over here but have been unable to find any. Currently i have be using Fish-a-bait but im am finding to soft and quite expensive $65 for 2.5 liters Anybody else found another brand or intrested in splitting costs and getting some from USA?
  9. My appologies. Found what i was looking for. As posted by Bojon I have made thousands of tubes, and have instructed many on how to make them, and how to solve thier problems.I have spent countless hours emailing instructions,so I have decided to write a ebook, that covers every aspect of tube dipping, and how I have been doing it for over 20 years. The biggest problem I have with answering the questions is I have trouble understanding the questions, but I never ignore even one Question . The best I can do on the tempature question is to instruct you to take Four onces of well stired, repeat ,well stired #500 plastic,.Pour this into a 2 cup,Pyrex measuring cup, stir with a tounge depresser,or a large craft stick.Leave this stick REPEAT LEAVE THIS STICK in the plastic, then set a micro wave timer to at least 3 minutes.Stir every 15-to 20seconds.The plastic will thicken, almost to a point that the stick almost wants to stand up.Watch very close now,and stir ,and then heat in small periods till the plastic drips from the stick at the viscosity of maple syrup.Make sure the stick has stayed with in the plastic the entire time,REPEAT the entire time. Now using the stick to allow the plastic to flow from the cup spout to a pan, that has bee lubricated lightly with Pam,then wiped down lightly, the plastic will flow down the stick into the pan.Set aside the cup(not on a cool surface),and stir the plastic that is in the pan.the pan is sitting on a hot plate, with a variable thermostat set barely on low,REPEAT barely on low.Stir gentle for about 10 seconds and the bubbles will dissaper,LEAVE the stick in a far corner of the pan inserted into the plastic were it will act as a heat sick. Now take a aluminum rod, which a wire handle has been bent at 90 deg and fastened with JB WELD to one end. This rod will be lubed with Pam and wiped gently with a paper towel.Too much lub,the plastic will sag on the rod too little and it will be hard to remove, giving the tube a wrinkled look. This rod will be dipped horizontaly into the plastic with a quick dip of less,REPEAT less than a second, turned ,so the rod is nose pointing down,NOW if you want a thicker ,tube dip again, thicker yet? Dip again, and set aside to cool for about 10 to 15 minutes. When cool slide off the rod,and you can repeat. Now cut to length, and slit the tails.Go fishing. There is no way, that there is a easier way for home tube making.Want a multiple dip just space 2 or 3 rods apart on a common shaft. You decide.I prefer one at a time.
  10. Have been trying to make some tube style bait with a bit of success (though i need harder plastic). I have been dipping my 4 inch rods vertically into the plastic. After doing some reading i keep hearing about the horizontal method. Could someone please explain how this work. I did a search but couldn
  11. Long time since i have been on here. Was just in the process of getting things up and running when my dad sudenly passed away from a heart attack (only 50 with no health problems !!). This put a stop to the bussiness as had to move back in with mum to support her. Ready to pick back up where i left off. Jim thoose baits are amazing!!!! Would you be mind posting a pic of the new mold. Did you use as much venting as before???? Also did you make the master yourself or just use a premade plastic to make the mold. Huge props again
  12. Awsome work. Will definatley have to give it a go No bass or guns down here in Australia
  13. Australia. Just down the road from you lol
  14. Looking forward to seeing how they go. Small 2inch grubs are very popular for those fishing for bream, the closest thing we have to your bass industry.
