  1. What Do You Do?

If your a fan of Lucky Craft RC's, Sammy's, and Pointer"s as I am, Iv'e found that the Academy H2O house bait is just as close as you can get. Their lure molds are supposed to be the same as Lucky craft. At the price ($15 and up vs $4 or so) I can repaint them and get just the right patterns and know that I'll a true running and action bait without breaking the bank. They will also clearance colors that aren't selling at even better savings.
  2. Blanks Or Paint Overs?

No you can't get blanks from Academy, but I paint just as you would any repaint. Scuff or strip and have at it. I watch for reduced price or closeouts of non selling colors and spend per bait about or a little more than good blanks but don't have the worry of getting a blank that won't run true. And their installed hardware is top notch. No you can't get blanks from Academy, but I paint just as you would any repaint. Scuff or strip and have at it. 4. Double Barrel Crimps

Barlows also have a five wire similar rig with a 1/2 oz head unpainted. Call them the umbrella rig. But you need to bake them at about 200 degrees for 15 min. (not 350 for 20) after powder coating or they will split open. That learned the hard way.
  5. Powder Paint

Thanks, I'll try the brown sack and then the swirl method
  6. Powder Paint

Using control value and coffee filters
  7. Powder Paint

New to powder painting and had a question for you pros. I read so much about a fluid bed that I built a couple and have great results after I finally got the air right with Pro-Tec powder. I bought some powder paint at Harbor Freight a couple of weeks ago ( couldn't wait on my order from Barlows) and it dipped fine, but I can't get anything but gushers when trying to use it in a fluid bed. Anyone got it to work? Also I will pass along something I found out. I ordered the unpainted umbrella or Alabama rigs from Barlows, powder coated them, then watched the heads split apart when baking them at 250 for 15 minutes. Called Barlows and was told some of the rigs were lead and some aluminum. They said they would bake at 200 for 15 minutes and should be fine. I guess time will tell.
  8. Extra Blade

    Thanks again
  9. Extra Blade

Thanks for the quick response. I've got all the beads and swivels I need as I used to make my on spinner and buzz baits but the only crimps that I can find googling are what I would call double like for coated wire line. Could someone point me in te direction for what I might need. Thanks
  10. Extra Blade

You wire bait guys really got it going. Small question. I'm making my own Alabama rigs and want to add an additional spinner bait blade about a third of the way from the head on each leg. How would I keep the clevice and beads from sliding done the leg? Thanks
  11. Trip Down Memory Lane

The original wood version, the Zaragossa, was made in the 1920s for fishing in Florida.

  15. Bomber Ko's

I guess I also should mention that I also have a bunch of rapala rattlin fat rap's, pre-rapala wiggle warts, all sizes of brass bagleys all unfished or good to excellent condition and some new in the package rapala shad raps and risto rap's. All baits at least 10 and most 15 to 20 yrs old. Been lurking on this site for several years hoping to get my self in the postion to repaint these myself, but who knows when that will happen. Maybe someone else would like to. You guys sure do good work and your knowledge is incredible. Gerry
