  1. Hi all just started making some of my own spinnerbaits and wondered about the position of the second blade. From what I gather the second blade spins on a different axis from the first. I've found that the second blade spins better when a bend is made on the wire so that both blades are spinning on the same axis plane. I know I've not explained this very well so I've have added a pic to show you what I mean. Is there a particular reason the original design is different? I have a lot to learn about this so any feedback on this greatly appreciated Thanks Chris Spinnerbaits.bmp Spinnerbaits.bmp Spinnerbaits.bmp Spinnerbaits.bmp Spinnerbaits.bmp Spinnerbaits.bmp Spinnerbaits.bmp Spinnerbaits.bmp Spinnerbaits.bmp
  2. Thanks so much for this Cyrano PM sent.
  3. Thanks guys for the comments. I've sourced out some spike-it and hoping the company will be kind with the shipping charges as I'd really like to try it out. Don't suppose any of you are coming to the UK in the near future? LOL Now does the shop bought lure need to be treated in some way before application? Many thanks again Chris
  4. Ah I see the sort of thing you are meaning now. I'm afraid I don't like to use anything scented on my lures. Is there a type of paint that I can simply brush on to tails and add a bit of detail etc? I assume shop bought lures would need to be treated/cleaned in some way for the paint to adhere as much as possible? Many thanks again for the support. Chris
  5. Thanks so much for the reply! Dipping dyes? Sorry but you are talking to a complete novice here. Do you by any chance have a link to such a product that will be suitable to soft baits? I assume this stuff stretches with the bait? I'm based in the UK so may struggle to source this stuff here so may need to rely on a supplier your way to ship which is often interesting how much some charge. Thanks very much again for the support. Chris
  6. Hi all, Would like to add a red tail to a few shads etc I have. Any suggestions on type of paint I could use that will adhere and stretch and stay on as long as possible? Absolutely any suggestions greatly appreciated indeed. Chris
  7. Thanks a lot guys for the replies! Seems there is a real problem producing a nice red if the hooks are not silver. Tried permanent marker on a silver hook and it looks pretty good although realise it will not stay on for long. As you have pointed out the red is a little too dark on other hooks. DDSBYDAY very interested in your electrostatic gun! Can you explain what's involved pleased? Also would it be possible to use this gun to produce a silver or perhaps white maybe then use your red? Vast majority of hooks I use are not silver. Many thanks again guys for the feedback. Chris
  8. Hi all, Been experimenting with using red hooks recently and I believe they make a difference to the catch rate. Perhaps something in addition for the fish to focus on??? Anyway, I'd like to be able to perhaps paint my own hooks if this is possible as buying red circles etc are very hard to source in the UK. Anyone experimented with this? Any feedback on this greatly appreciated indeed. Chris
  9. Hi there, wondering if any could please help me. I've just made myself some floating jig heads using Mustad 60 degree jig hooks. The attachment shows you the type I've made. They float great. However the hook point faces downwards even on the retrieve. I assume if I bent these hooks so that the eye faces down and the point up they would float with the point facing up on the retreive but I really don't want to attempt bending hooks. Is there another way to solve this problem? Could I add a small weight somewhere to rectify this perhaps? I'd be very grateful if any of you pros had any suggestions on this one. Thanks Chris p.s if bending or twisting the hook is my only option any pointers on best way to go about this without snapping the hook?
  10. Thank you Basseducer that clears things up nicely for me. I'm going to go with the 60 degree having considered your input. Many thanks again.
  11. Hi there, wondering if you could advise me on angle of jig hook to use please? I notice you can now readily get 60 degree jig hooks. Are there any significant advantages using these instead of the regular 90 degree? Any comment on this greatfully received. Chris
  12. Hi there just tried out these SLUG-GO lures and absolutely love them. What an action they have when you dangle it about in the air! However, I'm having trouble trying to get it to swim nicely in the water. I'm not using any weights etc with it and perhaps that could help. It would sure help with the casting side of things too I'm sure. Does any have any tips on best way to rig the slug-go? Do you have a favourite method to impart some life into these baits? Any tips whatsoever greatly appreciated indeed! Chris
  13. Hi all how's it going? Been messing about with speed jigs for the first time and intend on keeping my jig as scratch and bash free as possible from the rocks etc. Wondering if it would be possible to coat the jig with some sort of varnish or epoxy mixed with thinners. Anyone gone down this road? I have used pirks in the past and because I use a weaker link if I get snagged my pirk lasts for ages. Last one i discarded because it was all bashed up and rusty over time. Now that I'm paying good money for williamson jigs I'd like to geep them as presentable as possible. Only thing I'm wondering is whether coating the jig will affect the appearance adversely. Any comments whatsoever on what could be used will be greatly appreciated indeed. Chris
  14. Diemai, thank you for your reply! I think you are absolutely right about keeping the hook flexible. That's a very good point I overlooked. My diagram was very crude and gives the impression the plane/spoon is very curved but is not really. By the looks of mine they are the same type turkeylegs1246 pictures. I think I may still have an experiment with a mold to see how I get on. Failing that I may just cut a lead in half and glue the thing on. I've been looking at maybe using a clip to attach the plane to the hook instead of using wire. Hopefully this will give me the flexibility I need also. That do you think of these clips? 50 LINK CLIPS - TWINLINK CLIPS on eBay, also Other Sea Fishing, Sea Fishing, Fishing, Sporting Goods (end time 17-Feb-09 11:43:23 GMT) Or maybe THESEUS CARP - QUICK CHANGE UNIVERSAL LINK CLIPS X 20 on eBay, also Carp Fishing, Coarse Fishing, Fishing, Sporting Goods (end time 21-Feb-09 20:30:00 GMT) Again, appreciate your comments. So far they have saved me a lot of time and hassle. Chris
  15. Appreciate you guys sharing your opinion on this. I think I'm going to have a go at making a casting mold for this. I've made a few 2 piece molds for lead casting out of Cement and plaster. I've been playing about with long shanked hooks (Aberdeen hooks) and feel that one of the best options for me is to attach the hook directly to the spoon by drilling a hole then attach the eye of the hook with wire then pop it in a mold and pour lead around it. Not sure about best way to go about this though because of the shape of the spoon. Here's one idea I have. The filled in black represents the cavity of the mold that would fill with lead. Any thoughts on this? Chris
