Hunting and fishing. Mainly walleye fishing, but now that I am now back in my territory. Have boat, will fish the river daily. In the winter months, I spend my time pouring and painting jigs as well as painting/repainting various lures. Spinner blades are also up for color testing before I tie the different live bait rigs. Can't wait to try new live bait rigs I attempted. We will all be river rats.

  1. I've talked to a Rep at a couple of tournaments, and contacted them through e-mail. No go. I was looking to get bulk orders in just white. They will not do. Buy them and repaint them is the only way.
  2. Hey thanks guys. Am going to try all suggestions. Everyone gave great ideas. I knew you guys would help. Thanks again.
  3. Now that I am starting to spend more time painting and repainting for friends and fellow fisherman, I need to come up with a lure holder. Do any of you have any ideas for something to hold single or double lures? If not could you direct me to any stores where I can buy the parts to make something. I have my work bench down stairs and I can attach or clamp this to it. I have looked at adapting fly tieing jaws but am unsure if they will work. Besides painting unfinished blanks I have been asked to repaint quite a few crank baits for a couple of tournie fisherman. I sure could use the help of the experts in coming up with or making a clamp. Thanks

Thanks guys for the input. Sounds like I'll get both wood and plastic. Should keep me out of trouble for the winter months.

    Re-Painting

Finally, got back in to TU. I was asked the other day if I would repaint some Rapala's for my electrician, This has probably been explained over and over but I am looking for ways to increase fall and winter activities. How far down should I sand these or should I only rough up the surface. He wants only whites with possibly simple pinstripe type blood lines applied. He will be supplying a couple of dozen so I will have the time. Any help or direction for this will be appreciated.
  6. I see this is starting around again. That's good. I go under CRANKIE. I have been around here for awhile. I did a lot of cranks plus poured and painted my own jigs. Used the color variations I have seen through photos to blend different colors. I have dipped my jigs and used these blends to airbrush crank baits. I have also given numerous little seminars to over a dozen Cub Scout packs over the years. That's where the info goes. We all need to pass this on the younger fisher people out there. The kids ask the questions as you show them how to do things, but the parents come up afterword to learn more. Now off to the big river to ply my lures.
  7. I go by Crankie and I am a senile I mean senior citizen. I've been painting lures now for about 10 years. And, yes I have learned quite a lot from the Masters here at Tackle Underground. I have had some of my lures used by some pros for the FLW Walleye circuit as well as the FWL League, and now for some guys with the Cabela's Walleye series. I thank the original core group that started TU and thank those who post their fine tutorials to help us novices out.
  8. Hey, thanks folks. Your responses will really help. She already has some color combinations worked out for repaints. Soon as they get here I'll have to go to work. This is a great site because everyone helps everybody. Again THANKS>
  9. I am wondering if anybody knows where a guy can get the small crankbaits. I'm talking the the inch and a half sizes. I now live in the Black Hills area of South Dakota, and the better half wants to try these smaller baits for trout. I have followed the various makers/airbrushers and greatly appreciate allof your tips and years of experience. Have had various crankbaits out to some pros on the walleye circuit but am now looking to down size if possible for the wife. She really likes the Rapala F3's or anything smaller. Any help locating any small sizes would help.
  10. Try Lure-parts on line. They have four (4) models you can try. I've been trying these and I like the out come.
  11. Try lure-parts on line. They have three different styles that are chrome plated. I have painted them with transparent Createx and they really shine.
  12. I have been a member for sometime now. The TU site gives me a lot of ideas for painting as well as the Tutorials for working at making my own tackle. I do have a question though, the other day while admiring everyones lures in the gallery section, I saw an ad in the side ad area. This company had unpainted Series 200 Rip Shads for sale. As I use this crankbait walleye fishing, I thought it would interesting to purchase them to airbrush. But I misplaced the website info. Does anyone have the name for this company. I plan on being here more now that I have the time to work on my own tackle.
  13. Tired of the hot weather. All I do is sit in the work shop working on tackle. Need to go fishing.

  14. Thirtyacre86, you need a ton of money to prtect yourself for the whole project. Have a friend that tried patenting a very good idea. Used one of those patent agencies, need money for US patent, 20,000 dollars for asian patent and more money for european patent. You get the picture. In the long run, they redesigned his idea and are marketing it under a new name. All you have to do is change it minimually. I agree, listen to Larry D.
  15. well, here comes another winter blast thru the dakotas. I'm tired of winter and ready for open water fishing.
