  1. is there a certain foil to use for baits or would you just use standard baking foil and is it applied using impact adhesive think i'll have a play about see how good i am at foiling baits

  2. like bezy said a nice hardwood would be more suited, i tried one out of a piece of high density foam (trimboard) it was around 5" long and i had to make a pocket in the lure and put a 4oz ball lead in then drill tiny amounts out of the lead until it sank but once finished the overall weight is 4oz+ where a wooden equivelant maybe more like 3oz and far easier to work with.

mark i have some .013" ali shim i've found at work thatsideal for making templates from if you want some sending?

  3. i'll be spraying barewood mainly, i normally apply a coat of wood varnish so the wood doesn't absorb any water while i balance the lure up, so after that would a thin coat of etex then a spray over with createx white be sufficient before shooting some colours?

  4. Mart - hook a small 12 v battery either end of that harness (for a few seconds) and you can melt it into the PVC. Do a trial first though !!!! works good. pete

i like your thinking saves messing about with a lighter ;)

  5. i built this while at work today i though i'd start with the wired hinge frame then buil my bait around it as i found a small sheet of what i think you guys class as pvc trimboard so i'm going to attempt the split down the middle then rejoin method, as i made a glide bait out of it tonight and it seems ok or will be with a few coats of etex on

its made from .060" stainless wire

  6. just a quick question i've just got all my airbrushing stuff before this i've been handpainting but i was just wanting to know if you guys use a paint primer and then shoot colours or if you just put a thin coat of etex/devcon and then shoot onot that?

    cheers

  7. well the pike like my first attempt at a swimbait the first 5 casts with it this morning produced 2 fish and 2 follows, its only a triple jointer but it has a nice subtle swim action rather than an S snake type action

heres it with some paint just slapped on while i tested it out, going to rub it down and refinish it ready for use next weekend :)

  8. am i included in that quota vodkaman or am i breaching it lol.

i know the aire in leeds town centres stuffed full of perch can easily go through a bucket of 100 minnow livebaits in a couple of hours great fun. seen pike in clarence dock but not seen any in the main river but know people who have

  9. no not in a "walk the dog" style in a forwards and upwards motion, like a speedbaot aquaplanes but it lifts up higher so it goes from horizontal upto about 45-60 degrees ish depending how fast you work it.

it will also dive to about 6" on a stright retrieve and rock from side to side

i didn't bother weighting it with it being quite a flat profile and about an inch thich it sits quite nicely anyway with just a couple of size 2 eagle claws fitted

  10. have a crack at making one its not hard that one was made from a handbrush handle, just scallop the under nose bit out so your thumb sits nicely in it ;)

my mate saw it and asked for one making straight away for his sea bassing, i've made the others out of beech which i find is nice to work with just stay nice and square/blocky at the nose and file it tapering into a nice round profile to the rear

  11. heres a design i came up with not sure if its been done by any large lure companys or not, but my train of thought was to have the nose radius'd so it planes up like a boat then scallop the middle out forcing water underneath and down the centre of the lure.

on a retrieve with gentle taps the lure works in an arc type motion sticking its nose out or on a sharper tap it skips out of the water like a bait fish tryin to evade being eaten.

hope my pictures might give a better explanation than my wording, i've used this on a couple of surface lures so far the other incorporates a grub tail causing it to create a nice wake behind the lure on a stright retrieve.

  12. nice looking baits you made there.

i had an attempt at making my first swim bait today and overall i don't think its too bad just needs ballast and some sealant and i can see if it swims or not, the only thing i'm not sure about is the tail but i'm sure with a small nail file i'll get it looking ok

  13. i see your from leeds, i do some chubbing in the town centre  few good pike in the aire too i believe, my local water is wintersett sure you'll of heard or fished it before. had a few jacks out on home mades so far this year and if they fail me i usually turn to my trusty rapala subwalk15 :)

  14. just thought i'd post a hi i'm new etc etc post here as my first post, i found the site last night while browsing so thought i'd join up.

i'm relatively new to this lure making i've got a few and on the whole the ones i've created have been succsessful so far, i don't currently have an airbrush so most of my lures so far have been hand painted ok they might not look as good but they still work.

a friend airbrushed my last 2 and i was very impressed with the finish so will be looking into getting my own airbrush.

heres a pic of my best one to date in action (went and lost it after this fish GUTTED :()
