Well Mike....After hooking that monster Shad in the face with a Dobyns rod ( and yes it was a stout rod) .i did what any good self respecting angler would do when hunting for deep green December bucket mouths....I tossed that bait ...AS IS ON THE PIC...in hopes of nabbing monster.
JFYI...I had my best day of the year that day ....i hooked into 23 largemouth..8 of which were overs, and losing a 5 to 6 lbs'er at the boat. Fishing in AZ is a tricky thing..even trickier is dealing with it while fishing in December.
Hope you had a Merry Xmas also Mike

I have been using the pearls on my spinnerbaits...I have some old cranks that i was thinking of repainting but not sure what kind of top coat to use....i thought using D2T would be too heavy and thick.
Dakotas paint scheme loox like something you see in saltwater reefs....I like it....Very nice

Coming from you jim thats a huge compliment...Thank You...Now I'll probably make two dozen of em

In a word......SICK......what a natural looking work of art.....cant call it a bait...they are without a doubt works of art. Now can you get them back in the water before they die

Thanks guys for the cool comments on my baits. Most people would think I bumped my head again coming up with these crazy designs. But still trying to think out of the box to give the fish something different to look at. Talk to you soon.

Hey Panch,
Let me know what you're bumping your head on.....I'll ram mine through it to try to get some of the creativity juices flowing in my melon.

Big Panch...

Thanks....I had to go fish in mission bay in San Diego to learn how to fish with swimbaits....started catching real nice spotted bass and calico bass with them then i hooked into a 12 lbs halibut...then i was hooked..literally. Now i've started catching largemouth and smallies on em....cant get enough. I have had a tremendous amount of luck with brown and orange but i really like making the blues greens and grays.

I like the looks of your bait...especially the coloring. Where do you get your plastic from to pour those baits? And what do you use for your colors

Thanks for the tip. .I am sure to follow your advice. I think I am afraid of tinkering too much for fear of just ruining it altogether.

Those are gorgeous baits. Good luck on your opener. I am curious as to what type of resin you used and what kind of paint also?

I really meant to say Minesota...the other components I purchased online from a shop in Texas.

Unfortunatley I didn't....I am not that accomplished yet. I did get them from a tackleshop in Texas....I was trying to find more ornate heads instead of the typical cone shaped heads or the generic ones you find at other tackle stores. I can get you the name if you want, and thanks for the compliment. This whole tacklemaking thing is pretty addictive. I see other peoples work and I am just in awe. They look like....are...works of art.

Thanks Mark...I am hoping it does too.

John,
I am really new to this...could you tell me what kind of paint you used? I am using an airbrush. Your work is amazing. It's something I would like to strive for. Right now I am just using vinyl paints and horsing around at detailing 3/8 to 1/2 oz spinnerbaits. I ordered some unpainted crankbaits that I am waiting to arrive from Barlows....but I have to tell you I am a bit intimidated in that I am afraid of making them look more like floating dead fish rather than sharp looking lures.
Again,,,your attention to detail is phenomenol. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Those crankbaits are really nice. I am just starting out on making and painting my own tackle and was just curious as to what kind of paint you used on the balsa? Also..maybe you know or dont....what kind of paint would you or do you use on plastic crankbait bodies?

@surfk9 I drilled the hole in the bill..made a loop in the wire to be just slightly larger than the hole, then folded the tag end of the wire under the bill..cut the tag end. I then epoxied the bill in to the body. VOILA...that bait runs as good and as straight as any you buy in the store. I hope that helps
