  1. Sorry for the delay in getting back with you. Nu Lustre is been working real well for me and it's easy to apply. I mix the same amount of each product in a mixing cup then mix. Then just brush it on and place on a turner.
  2. Yeah thats what i been doing...powder paint then epoxy with nu lustre. Thanks
  3. First of all, Thanks for all the info that you guys post on this website. I have been custom painting crankbaits and making jigs and spinnerbaits for about 5 months now and this website is awesome. My question is has anyone ever tried to paint there jigs with a airbrush. I was wondering if I could use the Createx paint like I use on my crankbaits and just spray some jig heads also. I have been using powder paint (no fluid bed) for my jigs now and it just seems like it may be quicker airbrushing them. My only concern is if the Createx would be a tough as powder paint. I always epoxy by jigs after being painted anyways though. Just a question. Thanks
  4. I know there is secret on powder painting spinnerbait heads. I've tried heating the head then pouring the powder over the heads, but thats not making the heads slick like my jigs. How do you all powder paint your spinnerbait heads??
  5. I have wasted about 20 wires and hooks on this mold. I can't get the lead to form in all the places. Either the hook is showing or the barb isn't molded all the way. Anybody else have this trouble with this mold?
  6. After heating my jig head up I'm swishing it around in the powder but the paint is going on way to thick. So thick its covering the eyelet...to much heat?? I'm not sure...Any ideas...Thanks
  7. I want to thank you all for the help with my questions. After reading up on all the epoxies and topcoating, I am going a little different route and just ordered some Nu-Lustre 55 for my crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and jigs. It seems to be about the same stuff as what we have been talking about. Thanks Again
  8. Do mix your epoxy with acetone or anything else. Also what brand of epoxy do you use. Sorry about all the question, just new at this and want my baits to look good and be durable. Thanks
  9. I have a question on how you guys are applying the Devcon 2 Ton or the Etex to your crankbaits. I have some Devcon 5 Minute Epoxy and I noticed it is real thick, so thats why I was wondering. I just finished up on my first painted bait ever and I applied some Krylon Industrial gloss clear coat in the spray can. Now I'm sure this probably will not hold up but I need to order some DT2 or Etex because no one here around me sells it local. So how am I suppose to apply it when I do get it and how many coats. Thanks
  10. In an earlier post I said I was brand new to airbrushing baits. Well today I painted my first bait. I had an old #7 Shad Rap that I sanded down with 400 sandpaper then did my thing. The bait looked real good untill I sprayed a so called gloss sealer on it I had gotten from Michaels Craft store. Well that sealer turned the bait white and made it look awful. Now my question is my Wal-Mart doesn't carry that 2 ton stuff I see hear on this webite. I did stop by there and went to the craft section and got some ClearCote Hi-Shine Glaze by Plaid. It says its a brilliant finish and non-yellowing. Does anyone else use this or am I just going to have to do trial and error. What is the actual best stuff to use after you get the painting done to make the bait shine and protect it???? Thanks, I've been reading alot of post on here about jig making, airbrushing, and other things and WOW, there is alot of info here. Thanks for all the help
  11. Hello Everyone, I'm a newbie here and to the crankbait painting world as well. I just bought me a Badger 175 Cresendo airbrush today and some Createx (spelling) paints today. I have a couple of questions about the whole painting thing and they may be dumb questions at that, but if I don't ask I won't know LOL. After you get done with a color, what do you clean your airbrush and jar out with?? What size needle do I use to spray like a base coat on a crankbait (the whole bait)?? What size needle to put say lateral lines and different lines like that on a bait?? One more for now....Can I paint right over the factory paint on a crankbait....like can I get a DT10 out of the package and spray my pattern right over the factory??? Thanks for all your help and I look forward to talking with you guys and painting some custom baits. Thanks Again
