  1. i've used that blood trail on my lures and to be honest i don't think it really matters too drastically if you compare lures that are identical in every other way but the other one has that blood trail. on the other hand the predatory fish might not even see it as a blood trail but rather a flesh wound.

there probably is no scientific data on if its relevant or not to trigger a strike from a predator.

  2. I love your work Mikko. If I lived in Finland I would love to become your apprendist. Thank you for sharing all your work, not often pros like will share their work, wich I do understand especially if its their livelyhood

Thank you again, God Bless You

yeah i think i would not be sharing these techniques ether if i was doing this as a job, not because i don't want people to steal my tricks or ideas but simply i would not have the time for that or any interested after a long day of working and making lures, one tends to want to think of and do something completely different after there work or atleast i do :D

  3. yep like dieter already mention we have been using those curved " saddle lips" for quite a long time here, i believe the first ones were made in the 80ties.  the action that give is deadly especially for zander and lake trout but naturally other species do hit those lures.

btw and easy way to make a saddle lip yourself is to use a bottle neck as jig, heat up the plastic material and press it against the bottles neck and wait until it cools down. most of the lips over here are done from a softer plastic called propionate (im sure many of you know of it) in molds to insure the consistency.

  4. no broblemos guys, i do them just for fun and seems like other builders are more or less secretive and don't want to share there techniques, i found it being little bit arrogant and especially for beginners i though it would be a nice way to get into the hobby more when you don't have to learn everything by trial and error. over here in Finland there are a lot of good tutorials in books/ magazines and websites but since they are in Finnish most of the guys outside Finland don't really get to see them or find them.

  5. i was using a oiless compressor before and it was cooled by air and sounded horrendous when i had it on, i mean good grief it was loud. i later on invested to a oil cooled compressor ( hansa thc 20a) and its virtually soundless even when its on its very hard to hear so i can use it in my apartment without annoying the neighbors, its kinda expensive but with the features you get with it, i think its worth it

  6. alright i went all out with this next one its a 40 min long video of how to carve a topwater lure from start to finish, i've been asked to make one for since..well since i started making youtube videos so i finally caved in and did it lol.

    enjoy ;)

  7. i personally use 10 minute epoxy, you could try to get rid of the bobbles by hearing the epoxy with a heat gun or just stir the mixture very very slowly but still making sure it mixes, that's what i do now a days and i get hardly any bobbles, Envirotex and casting resins wont work here if your no using a mold. also if you have access to a pressure pot you can always collapse the bobbles under pressure, those things tend to be rather expensive and "normal" lure builders usually don't have them.

  8. from my experience there are few points that will help you get a hunting action to a bait, first of all the material that you use has to be very light, so balsa would suit the purpose perfectly, secondly you have to keep everything light on the bait including the wire harness down to hooks and hook rigs.

i've found that baits that are relatively symmetrical in shape, something like rapala original is a good shape to produce the hunting action the easiest compared to others, others do work too but require a lot more tinkering.

and lastly the swimming lip your using is critical, over here in Finland trout trollers use a saddle lips to get a erratic hunting action to there baits, but others do work too like a totally round lip does produce that action too when its put in the right angle.

also you can sometimes turn normal baits into once that have a hunting action by tuning the hook eyes from the belly and from the tail end of a bait. and sometimes if you sharpen the other side of the lip to cut more water it turns the bait into a bait that has the hunting action.

  9. hey guys i really have not been horribly active in the forum section here but i though some of you guys might be interested in this new great looking material that i discovered its called fusible film and what it basically is a very fine thin plastic wrapping material that gals use in there craft stuff to make angel wings and stuff of that nature.

i think it looks absolutely brilliant on lures too. it can be a bit troublesome tough cos you have to wrap the lure with it and use something to clip the wrapping material to the bait and make sure its very tight around the bait then you just take a heat gun and "fuse" the material to the lure and make it follow the contours of the bait and at the same time it even outs most of the wrinkles. it takes few tries to get a hang of it at first.

heres a bait i tested it on.
