  1. Hello all, I have a question. I paint baits but don't make them. Have I seen glide baits without joints? A stick bait sorta bait that swims under the surface? I was thinking of taking the bill off of a Bagley's Monster Shad, I'm sure I'd have to weight it to keep it upright, but I'm thinking of a topwater bait?? What do you experts think?
  2. I've used Gesso and it's kind of thick and you might have to apply a couple coats. Maybe plain ol' white spray on primer after the woods sealed. That's what I'd try
  3. Hello, I'm from the hard bait section but have a question for you softbait experts. I have someone who wants me to paint some hard swimbaits for him. The baits he makes have soft plastic or rubber tails. My question is, is there a way to paint the soft plastic or rubber? I would assume that it has to be dyed, that any paint would come off??? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a ton
  4. Thank you so much Vic, thank you
  5. Yeah, that's what I was getting at. I think I'll have to give this stuff a try...
  6. Yeah I read all of the red part but I guess I was wondering if there was a difference in cool vs. cold. I was just wondering if anyone on here that's used it used it in a cool basement and what they experienced.
  7. Let me ask you this, I work in my basement which is probably cooler than room temps if you know what I mean. The temp is not controlled down there like the rest of the house. It's not cold, but cooler. Do you think this is too cool to use this product?
  8. If heat helps it cure faster can you heat it up slightly after you apply it?
  9. Thanks guys, that's kind of what I figured...ugh
  10. I use devcon 3 and I've had the epoxy crack on a few baits. This is well after it's dried/cured. I know once I had a bait in a plano box on a hot sidewalk for a couple of hours and the heat made the bait crack, warp and peel all over. But this is not the case on these baits, maybe kept in a boat when hot?? not sure yet but does anyone have any ideas as to what makes them crack?
  11. Thanks Ben, I didn't want to mess up
  12. Uh oh, I hope I didn't mess up by posting this pic. I wasn't trying to promote my work, only showing an example of what you guys were talking about. Is this gonna get me in trouble?
  13. I noticed the clear look of juvenile bait fish and took a stab at it. I like the way it turned out and a lot of people buy them pretty good.

  17. I've looked on unpaintedbaits.com and they only have about four baits, is there something I'm missing????
  18. Don't you need both? They do different things, if I'm understanding your question..
  19. My client's looking for a squarebill in 1.5 size and a flat sided crankbait that runs 3'-5'
  20. Do any of you good people sell wood crankbait blanks, or know where to get them? With lip already in preferrably....thanks
  21. Does anyone here sell blank wooden baits? I have a client who's looking for wooden baits and I'd like to know myself....thanks
  22. Thanks guys for taking the time to write such an involvled response. It was very informative. Now I have to decide if its worth it. Maybe I can paint them and pay someone with experience to clear coat them for me lol lol. It does sound very intimidating and a little expensive for me to just play around with some old reels I have. Thank you so much again...
  23. I asked this in the rod repair but I'll ask it here too, can someone tell me how you apply automotive clear? I think some of you use it on baits?? I was thinking of painting a reel. Thanks in advance
  24. As far as clearing reels, how is automotive clear applied? Thanks in advance
