  1. Hey Pete, Just buy them from WTP directly. They make most of the eyes that these other outlets are selling and they make them up to 3/4". You just have to buy 1000 at a time per size per color. 1000 3/8" eyes will cost you $46.36. www.wtp-inc.com and ask for a manufacturers catalog Troy
  2. Thanks David for the feedback. That's kinda along the same lines as I was thinking. The only reason I ask is because there is someone on the web selling Eagle Claw hooks for about the same price as Shorty's and there's no way he can buy those from Shorty's and make any money. And there's no way he's buying from Wright McGill either...... Troy
  3. Wonder where Shorty's get their hooks? I assume directly from the manufacturer. I've contacted Eagle Claw about becoming a dealer but no response. Actually, the "no response" seems commonplace in the fishing industry. It's amazing they sell anything these days.
  4. Thanks to everyone who sent emails and offered to help. I did receive a couple samples and this mold will fit my needs. Ordered it a couple days ago. Thanks again! Troy
  5. I was wondering if anyone has this Do-It mold: Style H Jig - BTH-5-A I have a couple questions and would like to buy a couple sample jigs that you may have laying around before I purchase the mold. Let me know if you can help me. Thanks in advance! http://do-itmolds.co...ry&path=1_7_195 Troy Fishing@Striper-Sniper.com
  6. *UPDATE* I tried the plastic softener and got the same results as I did with the worm oil. The plastic worms are bone dry in a day or two after coating. A friend suggested I try silicone oil to achieve the "wet shiny look" in the bag that will last for long periods of time. Does anyone have any experience with silicone oil?
  7. Thanks for the feedback guys. So, should I assume that my plastic baits are absorbing the worm oil but they will not absorb the softener? Because if they absorb both the oil and softener, then I'm still in the same boat. What are companies like Culprit using that their baits are still lubricated in the bag after being on the shelf for a year? I have a similar worm and they're bone dry in a couple days. Troy
  8. I have tried two brands of worm oil and both of them evaporated after a couple days. I read on here that softener will not evaporate, and looks like it's cheaper than worm oil by the ounce. The worm oil worked fine for lubricating/bagging right away but the baits dried out after a day or two. It sounds like softener will coat the baits and they will always keep that "wet look" appearance in the bag. Plus, I could coat several thousand worms with the softener and come back to them a week later and package. Bascially for me, it all boils down to evaporation.
  9. I need a gallon of plastic softener to use as worm oil for packaging. So, I'm guessing it doesn't need to be top shelf. Bear's has a gallon of Calhoun for $31.95 or I could order direct from M-F for over twice that much. Am I missing something here? Thanks, Troy
  10. Mike, it's my understanding in your case you would want to the pay the manufacturer the excise tax. Example: Your cost = $1.00 / Tax: .10 / Final cost: $1.10 If your intention is to modify the bait then you would wait and pay the tax on the final cost. Example: Your cost = $1.00 / Modifications: $1.00 / Selling price: $5.00 / Tax: .50 I'm not an accountant but that's what I was told anyway. Troy
  11. There goes 5 minutes of my life I'll never get back
  12. WoW, that's pretty cool stuff right there. How do you think the finish will hold up after a few catches?
  13. Lake Land Lures was bought by Fisherman's Outpost in CA a couple years ago. The make several shad baits but not this exact one. The company in Eufaula is Southern Plastics, they don't make it either. Thanks for all the help guys! I still have hope the manufacturer will be located. Troy
  14. Thanks guys, I checked out H&H. Unfortunately, their's have more of a minnow profile instead of a shad profile.
  15. They are manufactured for Skirts Plus which you can order directly in large amounts. Barlow's sells them. The one's Janns carries are not the original Hole-In-One but similar.
  16. Hey guys, I could use some help locating the manufacturer of this 3 1/2" sassy shad. I have contacted the following companies and none of them are familiar with it: Southern Plastics (AL), FM Bait Manufacturing (KY), Carolina Baits (NC), G&R Plastics (AL), American Plastics (GA), Action Plastics (AL), and D&J Plastics (GA). At this point, I'm willing to pay a finder's fee so please send me a PM if you recognize it. One feature that sets it apart from the other shad baits is the small dorsal fin. Thank you, Troy
  17. The bait that I'm "copying" is no longer in production after 20 years on the market. It did not have a patent and the owner of that bait is the one that advised me to have another mold made to the same specs. So I feel like I'm covered but please let me know if there's something else to consider.
  18. Thanks Caster, I took your advice and went with DFD. The mold has been designed and ordered. About 3-4 weeks and it should be ready to shoot. The prototypes looked and swam better than I had expected. It will be a standard 12" X 30" mold with 28 cavities capable of shooting solids and laminates. Final cost was $4K. Best price I found and nice folks to work with.
  19. Oh trust me, it's been overwhelming for me too. The way I figure, I'm either gonna make it big or have 49,999 really nice ziplock sandwich bags!
  20. That's what I'm currently using now and yes it's cheaper in the short run but not in end. You figure a plain laminated bag plus 2 labels front and back and you're close to three times what a printed bag will cost. Unfortunately, looks like you have to buy 20,000-50,000 at one time. Is anyone using printed bags from Johnson? I would love to know what their print quality looks like. In-Pact Poly sent some samples and they look sharp!
  21. Thought I would share the results of my search for printed laminated bags. I only contacted companies in the US. 1. Contacted "Presto Products" = They never returned my call. 2. Contacted "Bison Bag" = Spoke to Garrett. He told me that this laminated material is very "special" and it's the same type of material used in the medical industry where the specifications are much higher than the fishing industry. For this reason, he told me they would have to order 5,000 pounds of the material at one time that would roughly make 300,000 worm bags. 3. Contacted "Ultraflex" = Spoke to Alden. He echoed what Garrett at Bison Bag told me. The only difference is he would try and get two other companies to go in with me for the material purchase. That way, it would reduce the amount of bags each person would have to buy. However, he still said each person would need to purchase 50,000 bags each. 4. Contacted "In-Pact Poly" = Spoke to Steve. He told me they would also have to order the material but he could print 50,000 bags for me and not have to wait for other companies to split the material. The price per bag would be between .08-.10 each and each color would cost a one-time "plate set-up" fee of $200 per color. I have 5 colors in my design. He said the lead time between artwork approval and delivery would be around 8 weeks. 5. Contacted "Johnson Bag Company" = Spoke to Doreen. She told me they could print 15,000-20,000 bags for me and the cost per bag would run between .08-.10 each. The one time "plate set-up fee" would cost $250 per color. She said the lead time between artwork approval and delivery would be 10-12 weeks. I know lots of folks have wondered about going this route and others have checked into it. Just wanted to share the information I was given as of July, 2010. Hope this helps someone. Troy
  22. I did some research on this awhile back and here's what I came up with. Barlow's and Jann's sell a similar "umbrella" skirt. One is the "Hole-In-One" skirt sold by Skirts Plus. The other is a similar skirt made by GLC and sold by Z-man. You cannot buy just the hub, however you can custom order just about any color skirt and strand count through Skirts Plus. GLC also makes a similar looking skirt with a silicone hub called an "Easy Band Skirt." I assume you could probably order these through Z-man as well. Hope this helps some. I know it took me several weeks to locate this information and hope I can save you the hassle.
  23. Just wanted to post an update on the production mold process. I learned there is a process called "reverse engineering" where a computer program scans your prototype bait and can produce the same exact bait. Then you can modify the bait if needed. In my case, I want to shorten it up a little bit. I was soft quoted 4-6K for a mold to shoot solids and laminates but the formal quote came in at $5600.00 Not a bad price but still waiting on other quotes. Have talked with Carolina Mike several times on the phone and he has been very helpful. I can't wait to start working with him. I just wanted you guys to know that it might be cheaper than you thought to go this route. For me, it makes perfect sense. I just do not have the time or knowledge to hand-pour from the house. Troy
  24. Thanks golf, that sounds a lot better. I'll post back when I get some firm quotes.
