  1. I have some gulp crankbaits that I’m about to repair and repaint. As I was checking them out I noticed something that I haven’t noticed before.  I have 3 that are more flat in the mid section than the other gulps I own and have owned. So my question is did Mr Harter change the bait a bit? These aren’t replicas made by someone, I don’t believe. Cause if they are someone copied his design to a “t” and used his painting style as well.  They all have the same type wire for the through wire harness.  Here’s some pics and if anyone knows I would like to hear your input.

  3. Sorry cadman I jumped topics mid stream. The new D2T packaging states that you can mix chalk with it. Yeah I was thinking about skipping a step. If you mixed a white chalk into it then used it as a seal coat you may not have to paint the white base coat. It all depends on how well it seals and covers with a chalk mixed in with the epoxy.

  4. Cadman, believe you are referring to the Flex Coat High build. Thats what Big M uses and Im sure some others. I was reading the new packaging and it had on there that you can mix chalk into it. Wandering if anyone has tried this, especially for a seal coat with white chalk? Could this eliminate one step in the paint process provided your seal coat is slick? I also wander how the chalk would make the epoxy spread? Now to find some white chalk!

  5. Gentlemen, I need help locating some eyes for crankbaits. A friend of mine wants me to repaint a couple of baits. Which is fine and well but the problem lies with the eye color hes wanting. He want a methiolate/flo. orange. I checked a few places with no luck. The closest I found was @ Janns and the ones they have are listed as flo red. The problem with theres is they are 3/8" and not 3D. Any help would be appreciated.

  6. Sorry guys I wasnt trying to bring down this forum or original topic with politics. I just believe we can build better products here as cheap as overseas, if it wasnt for alot of the political bs. And I wasnt knocking people overseas building products or saying their product isnt any good. Rowingadubay I hope you find those baits and they work for you. Baitmaker2 you are correct about politics and religion. They are touchy subjects to say the least. Ill leave it at this, opinions are like buttholes everybody has one!

  7. We as consumers do have a say to a certain degree. But being a small buisness owner(glass company, not baits) its the idiots in Washingtons fault just as much if not more than ours/consumers. If they would lower the capital gains tax then more buisnesses would open, stay and others move their operations here. If that happened then I believe we would see a better quality all around, reguardless of product. Not trying to be political or get into a political debate. But thats why most companies have out sourced or moved complete operations out of country.

  8. The twisted wire hangers Benton is talking about are hand made from ss wire. In my opinion have a better look than standard screw in eyes. They are not as bulky looking. Also to make a good harness take a 1X6(for illustration) and draw your bait on it. Draw where your ballast will be and where you want the rear hook hanger and line tie. Drill holes(dont have to be completely through) where the line tie and hook hanger loops will be. I use old drill bits to fit the holes(tighter fit the better). I start with the rear hook hanger first, I start my wire about an inch inside the bait loop it around the bit. Then I hold the wire with pliers and pull the wire tight(with another pair of pliers) and loop it around the front bit and cut off any excess wire. When I build through wire baits my harness is just for rear hook hanger and line tie. I do my ballast and belly hanger as one and its seperate from the harness. As Benton said cut the blank then lip slot and then split it. I take a dremel and groove my blanks where the harness is going, so when I glue my halves back together there is no gaps between the two. Once the epoxy is dry then I drill my ballast hole. It needs to be as centered as possible(side to side). At this point is when I start to shape my bait. Sorry for being long winded and hope this helps and not confuses. Lol! The more you try and build the quicker the learning curve. Do it to have fun and not with the mind of making money. Cause in my opinion there is not a price you can put on a well made hand built bait that catches fish.

  9. A friend of mine has some Zoom Z-2's he wanting me to repaint. Hes wanting me to go back with the same type base. I just need to know what type of paint it is. The base coat is white but has a reflective look. Its not a pearl or silver its white. Do yall know what type of paint it could be? Thanks for any help.

  10. I would try transparent light brown and add opaque red. I would start by trying a 10 to 1 mix. If the red is to much then go to a 15 to 1 mix. Experiment from there. Spray on test bait or paper first to make sure its right. WARNING Im not the best painter/color mixer. You might want to wait for some other opinions.LOL! But hope Im on the right track.

  11. I intend to make a vacuum former. What is the best way or method(in your opinion) to cut out the pattern(s)? As of now I use heat shrink tubing and it works good. The only problem I have with it is getting super clean lines when cutting out my patterns. Ive tried a hot knife and it works better than a straight up exacto knife. But still not as clean of a line Im looking for. Thanks for any help in this.

  12. Sequins! What a smart idea! Once they're glued on, a drop of black for the pupil, and you're all set!

If I thought the looks I got when I bought nail polish were funny, I can only imagine what the woman at the fabric store will think when I ask for sequins! I already bought tulle there for scales, so I hope they will let me back in. Hahaha

Bahaha! Thats funny but true. Even at Hobby Lobby I get funny looks from ladies. I just want to tell them they have man stuff here as well. Even though I go into the fabric section or scrap booking area trying to find different punches or fabric for scales.

  13. Whats the purpose of the glitter? Knowing that would help us help you. For topcoating purposes I like really fine hobby glitter. Dont know the name I just get it at Hobby Lobby. Unless someone wants the bigger stuff in the topcoat. Check out the gunmetal tread started by A-Mac. A few guys were discussing glitter as scales and share how they do so. Hope this info helps.
