  1. Ok, so i did some extra reading online about fluxing and most of the information states that fluxing is just to get alloys to "stick" together better and that it does realistically nothing more for removing impurities than stirring with a wooden stick, adding sawdust, or cat litter. My question is "how" does it make the pouring process easier? I have not yet started to pour lead because I am trying to read as much as possible before jumping in. Thanks!
  2. Thanks for the advice! What is it about the bottom pour that would make it more effective for the smaller jigs? Just accuracy and then speed to quickly fill the mold to keep from rough finishes or what? In any case I do appreciate the help!
  3. Hi there, I just put a post in the classifieds. I am putting this post here for you guys to see. If you have some extra jig making stuff please check out my post in the classifieds section. What I need is written in that post. Link to classified page Thanks a bunch, Matt
  4. Hey gang, I joined the site today and am very impressed with the amount of knowledge and creativity that resides here. This past fall I made myself some musky bucktails and want to expand to making lead-heads for walleye/smallie/crappie/steelhead fishing. I am looking for all the necessary tools required to do so. I have done plenty of research and am ready to give it a go. I will need a melter (cheapest, as I will not be making tons but just enough to supply my father and I. I thought maybe a Palmer Hot Pot 2 would be about right) and a mold or multiple molds. I plan on making 1/16, 1/8, 3/16, 1/4 and maybe 1/32 if possible in a round head with a collar. A live bait jig mold would be neat as well in the same sizes. I will buy my paint locally unless somebody has excess that they would be willing to get rid of for relatively cheap because I don't think the shipping would allow for a reasonable price for either party. Thanks for viewing and let me know what you have by emailing me at mthay037@uwsp.edu. Thanks so much and happy crafting, Matt
