  1. thanks folks, I'll go with the hardloy guides as I can get them locally. Allot of folks don't think an old Uglystik is worth the effort but this rod has served me very well over many years and I can't bare to part with it. thanks again
  2. hello all, I've been reading this forum for quite some time now and have a quick question. I have an original uglystik from the 70's (todays don't even compare) and it is still in perfect shape after decades of use. I love this rod even over my St Croix and fenwicks. The guides however are now causing knicks in my line and I would like to replace them. can you fine folks please recommend what guides are decent? there are so many to choose from and I honestly don't know what is what. I don't mind spending as long as I get quality that will last. I will be using braided line. Thank you so much Belly
  3. "There's a small city park I often fish, with lots of these buggers running around at night." I'd be pickin up some of'em and threadin them on a hook unless there is a live bait ban
  4. if it's flammable there should be a WHIMMIS sheet available. Contact the company they are forced by law to have WHIMMIS available, at least here they are
  5. exactly what I wanted to hear....thank you
  6. Hello folks. I've been reading this forum for quite some time now and have a quick little newbie question I have a crapload of old but new plastics in very dark colours that I never use. Leeches are an awesome bait here but hard to come by sometimes. I was thinking I could melt the plastic and just pour my own leeches out on tin foil. They should end up quite thin and lively in a dropshot setup. has anyone ever tried this??? I guess I really don't need to ask , I'm gonna try it anyway. Thanks for any input
  7. I watched a show a while back where a guy in British Columbia with a camera on his down rigger ball did a study on scents and how effective they were. His conclusion was that commercially available scents had no appreciable effect on hit rate. Funny thing was the bait he dropped in the bilge water showed a dramatic increase in hits. maybe the burnt smell could be "just the ticket"
  8. I don't see any reason not to try them. Who knows, they may end up being just what the fish want
  9. may sound a little crazy but....seeing as you've accepted the data as lost, try putting the hard drive in the freezer for an hour then hook it up cold and try. I was able to get quite a bit of data off a dead drive like this. It was suggested to me from a computer help forum. I think the cold makes the bearings contract giving you "some" time to recover data. Not reccommended if you plan on having the data proffessionaly recovered
  10. I too would love to see this one
  11. I should be able to get out and give them a run this week, never really gave the blade lift much thought, we shall see. Next lure I'll try 4 wraps on the hook end thanks for all the suggestions and advice
  12. those are #5 trebles the bras beads are quite heavy as is and I didn't think I'd need more in 4-6 feet of water. I have yet to wet them so can't tell you how deep they run thanks for all the comments, once I finish with all my wire stuff I'm gonna try my hand at some hard baits
  13. My split rings are too big, I need to get some smaller ones
  14. my first attempt at my own spinner. Bucktail was a bit more difficult than I expected but not bad for first one. I have since made 3 more and have made a jig for the closed loop just by putting 2 nails close together along the edge of a board. Ypu can see I had no such jig when I closed this one
