  1. Thanks for the comments and suggestions guys Mark alot of the stuff your saying I'm doing I do heat set the the paints I do agree that I may be over thinning the paint I really dont know what type paint I have several different types createx, folk art, and someother type not sure the name.I've not had any problems up until yesterday until now thats why it so confusing to me. My E-tex seems to go on thick and 3 coats seems like it would be way to much but I'll try it do you sand between coats?.

  2. I been having some problems with my paint or primer not sure which one. Ive been having flaking issues from the primer and the paint and of couse the exopy is coming off as well. I'm using a spray can primer rustoleum and using diff. waterbased paints some colors seem to stick OK I have been heating my exopy after applied and seems to be hardening GOOD but for what ever reason the paint is not sticking to the primer I"m wondering if anyone else maybe having or had this problem. Appears to be peeling off in large pieces I'm using Etex exopy and have used on several baits without issues.

    1) It maybe the primer is releasing thinner on the paint due to the heating process?

    2) Maybe I"m thinning my paint to much with water and causing the issue?

    3) Maybe not enough drying time or too much drying time and not sanding between coats?

    4) Or maybe I just dont know what I'm doing (which I don't) but this seems to be one color that is really causing the main issue maybe I should find a new color that will work.

    5) Maybe the E-tex epoxy I'm using is the problem I know not many people use this for a top coat but it does not seem to be the problem but it might be seems to be good and hard and not break if hit on docks, rocks etc.

I've had the E-tex break by hitting a bridge pillar but it flakes all the way down to the bait if hit hard enough . I'm confused just looking for some ideas or help I dont know if anyone has had any of these problems or not, just wondering if any of these problems have been encountered before.

one other thing can E-tex be thinned and with what and what ratio. thanks ahead of time for any help or suggestions floydfire
  3. okay thanxs big bass man i really appreciate it

I use elmers spray glue and glue to the foil. I spray a bunch on the foil and so the paper is very wet with glue so the foil color bleeds through more. push from the middle out of picture with some type of credit card

  4. Buddy of mine bought a bait the other day it had fluid in the bait with another fluid in there as well looks like blood. I did attempt to make some they look cool just wondering if anyone else had tried this too. I used food color and baby oil and water+food color mixed then with baby oil looks neat whats ya'll thoughts ? pictures to follow

  5. I have painted thousands of baits since I started I used to mess up a lot on scales, stripes, and a lot of blending when I first started but now everything just flows together and I can do as many as 30 colors a day no matter how large the sets are I recommend a iwata custom micron c plus or the iwata high line ch I have both but like the high line better I have 14 3700 series plano boxes stuffed with cranks and I probably dont have 30 total that are stock colors I repainted everything to my specifications I look at it this way every fish in the lake have seen stock colored baits so why throw the same thing make yours different

Good points I try to make stuff different but sometimes i dont like the things I paint but somebody seems to like them but I'm trying new stuff all the time. really like the photofinishes but I likr the painting part better I think

  6. I like these they look like my first paint jobs from several years ago all I can say is that every bait you paint the better you get

It seems like they are looking better to me every one I do thanks you guys have been very helpful thanks again..

  7. I was told by the Etex tech to mix the two part thoroughly before adding the alcohol to thin it. Evidently, the two separate parts will bond to the alcohol instead of each other if they're not mixed together first.

    Just a word of advice.

Since she told me that, I make sure to really mix any two part epoxy well before I thin it, and haven't had any problems.

How much alcohol do you put in it ? Seems to be working well by brushing on but I'll try the thinning next batch thanks for the comments.

  8. I've been using E tex for a topcoat I have a problem with the epoxy running after a single dip down on my bills of my crankbaits on my turner then I have to cut and it leaves a rough spot on my crank bait what should i do to change this any suggestions?????? thanks ahead of time

  9. Which is ..... ?

Well I'm new to the site but I think several people make this mica Pearl paint additives I use a blue and a green I got from a local body shop there was a rainbow mica I could have gotten but did not. You add it to clear and spray on it's like a three stage color used on cars I think not for sure but thats what it looks like. thats a good source of micas that mixes paint at their shops they are very expensive though, I will get some soon and see if thats what it is and post some pictures

  10. I am extremely impressed and want to get started in this. .. .How did you get started? Book? Can you make any suggestions for how I can get started? Thanks.

I just stumbled on this site and a few others I started by just painting some of my old baits I found a cheap airbrush gun and started with model car paint. It did not hold up good with the clear I was using I got a rattle can clear at first caught a few fish in one that I painted but the paint chipped off and a buddy of mine had a better airbrush and he wanted to paint some so we used his stuff for a while then I got a better airbrush gun again so now Ive got 4 guns still not the one I want but thats a money issue but we are getting better stuff all the time. There are some really good places to buy clear blanks and these forums help a ton and almost anyone will help you or point you in the right direction they have all done the hard part and most of the the ways work very well you just have to do some trial and error but like I said they have done a lot of the hard stuff already so it makes it easy for the me. You can drop me a line anytime I'll try to help what I can but I'm still learning too.

  11. I have to say ya'll guys are very talented in this art form I look at the gallery almost everyday to find new ideas if I can only do some of the stuff that ya'll do I'll be pleased and ya'll are very helpful to the newbies some of these baits will make my catch ratio go up I'm sure I want to try the foil and photofinish next those are wicked cant wait to try them thanks for the input.

  12. Update...... Fished a local pot tourament Thursday afternoon with this lure caught 1 nice keeper and hooked up again but fish came off Kinda like a proud papa it worked and the crank bait bite still not real good right now here in North Georgia. But things are looking up did a few more yesterday but no pictures yet waiting on some new eyes will post soon thanks for the good comments,

  13. Nice shading and your scale pattern looks good. I didn't even try the scale pattern until I'd been painting for a while. Pretty nice for your first bait. :yay:

Thanks.....Well not the first just the first I would show other than to the family I worked on this bait for 3-4 days off and on had a really hard time with those scales. I did paint a few last week I was really proud of but when I mixed some automotive clear and sprayed on them it was way to thick and they blistered I could have cried. just learned to airbrush over the last few weeks I'm proud of the improvements I've made in that short amount of time. I got some really cool ideas if I can get them on a bait. thanks for the post and comments.

  14. After several attempts this is what I came up with for the first post on here. Any feed back would be great I've not talked to many on here but have looked, read, and researched to make a good bait hope you enjoy this and thanks for any feed back. Hopefully more to come.

  15. I new to this any help would be great. I'm using createx paints but should I use a primer on the plastic baits after I sand the baits prior to applying the basecoat? I have been sanding with a scotchbrite pad and then applying the createx paint but Im having some paint peeling from the making that I'm doing. I researched the search engine on the topcoats I want to spray my baits is there a clearcoat that I can use straight on the createx paints? Any help would be great and thanksahead of time. By the way there are some of the best baits I've ever seen hope to only be half as good as some on here you guys are very talented thanks again for any help.
