  1. There are lots of places to get the things you need, btu here is some of my favorite resources. Lowe's Home Center for my wood, lexan, screw eyes, etc. Michaels Crafts for envirotex lite, epoxies , paints , sealers. They are also an excellent source for beads, feathers, spring wire, and lots of other useful lure building components ( The sunday paper always has a 40% off coupon for one item at Michaels, you can also print the coupon online sometimes). and then , I love e=bay for hooks, split rings, lips, spinner blades, and pretty much everything.............. I hope this helps
  2. I've been googling images of different types of fish ie: typing in bluegill, perch, rainbow trout, smallmouth bass , etc. I normally find good clear pics right away. I then save them to a folder on my pc for later use. I have also been playing with a program called gimp, where I can copy and post the pics and then play with the shades , sharpness etc of the colors. Hope this helps .
  3. Ok, I have done a search so I wouldn't be re- asking a question, but i came up dry, So here's my question. Has anyone used pvc cement as a sealer , or topcoat?? I was laying on my back under a house, plumbing a washer drain when some of the pvc glue dripped on my hand , and within minutes was dry hard and shiny....... I thought, hmmmm. So when I crawled out a few minutes later I painted some on a piece of 2 x 4, and it dried quick, hard , and shiny. So before I paint it on my lures , I'm wondering has anyone tried it , and what are your opinions???? Thanks, I have learned loads by reading the forums, I just hope to someday be able to produce something distantly as awesome as what I see on here.....
  4. settn' in the rockn chair whittling fishing plugs....... this is the life!!!!

  5. Thanks for all the input .... keep it coming .........
  6. Thanks, guys. Also I'm wondering, has anybody ever used lead shot as counterweight?? Another thing, is there any set idea as far as to how much weight = how deep, or is it just trial and error???
  7. Ok, I have made some topwater plugs, poppers, zara spook type , and other various creations. Now I'm expermenting with deep divers, and am wondering about the best material to use for making the lips. Also in weighting the lures ...... is it possible to fill the cavities with hot lead, or will I have trouble with the lure busting?? Thanks Jtilley
  8. just keep reading the forums , and after awhile it starts making sense........ lol
  9. Ok, I've been reading on the forums, and I'm starting to get the lingo.....D2T = Devcon 2 Ton, and Etex = Envirotex Lite. I believe I can find those..........
  10. Thanks alot CLM, every tip helps It has been said to learn from the mistakes of others, because we don't have time to make them all ourselves . Where do I get the D2T, or Etex. up until now I have been using clear wood sealer, but it seems to tint my colors. Thanks Again, Jtilley
  11. loving TU looks like an awesome site for a beginning luremaker

  12. Hey guys I am new to the tackle making world, and I would like some info on how to produce a professional looking lure. I have hand whittled , and hand painted a couple dozen wooden plugs. Some look and perform good, others do not, lol. I have recently acquired a bandsaw , and it really speeds up the process . I am looking for info on paints, clearcoats , etc. I like trying to copy some of the vintage lure styles, and paint schemes. I also am interested in making deep diving crankbaits, I have whittled out a few blanks, but have no idea as to where to place the plastic lip, counterweights, tuning , etc. This looks like the place to find all typrs of good info. I'm looking forward to your responses, thanks in advance.
