  1. I got an airbrush from harbor freight about a year ago for about $15 and ive used 50 cent acrylic paint (thinned down with jst plain water), createx paint and model master enamal and they all work for me. Createx has been the easiest jst because it is already thinned. But the enamal flows great but its kind of a pain because I have to clean out my brush very quickly and very often because it dries very thick in the brush if you don't. Im sorry i can't help u with the clear coat. I jst use a dip coat and it works for me. And for the detail part, i turn the pressure way down to about 25 psi and jst go really slow. it works very well with the createx paint.
  2. You can buy the actual scale pattern at a place like jannsnetcraft.com but if u just go to the dollar store then you can find any mesh bag or what i use which is a butterfly net that i can either use it as is or it is able to stretch if i want bigger scales. And this bait looks great. I like the eyes a lot and that scale pattern looks great over that base color!
  3. I tried doing this and it did take a while, especially because the swimbait was a total length of about 2.5 inches so I didnt have very much room to play with, but it did work. Then i carved the exact same body and cut it in half and just carved out the whole inside of the body and filled it with epoxy, and then placed the screw eyes in it and it feels really solid. Thanks i didnt realize how strong that could be until i finished it and started pulling on it.
  4. I am fairly new to making swimbaits. The only ones that I have done is with basswood, which is strong enough that I can use screw eyes for hangers and joints. The only promblem is that I dont like how heavy the bait has to be in order for it to sink. Does anyone know the strongest way, if any, to do a through wire on a balsa swimbait? Thanks
