  1. Thank You all for being so helpful. As soon as I get a chance I'm going to make some more jointed ones so I can experment a little more. Hopefully I will get a chance this evening to work on them.
  2. Thanks guys, Woodie, are you saying I should use a smaller lip or move it back further on the lure? Im just getting started and everything I have learned has been trial and error so any info or shortcuts I can get I appreciate.
  3. Thank You guys for your help. I took it to the pool with some lead and black tape and believe I have it figured out. Just needed a little bit of weight in front of the first treble. I still cant run the lure very fast but gonna experiment with the lip angle and see what I can come up with.
  4. I am having problems with some of my jointed crank baits. When bringing them through the water they want to come up on their side. Some do this and some dont. I thought maybe I wasnt getting my lip in square and I read Big Bass Mans post and the advice you guys gave him on cutting lip slot. I also notice that if running the baits slow it is less likely this will happen. I connect my lures bodies with screw eyes and joining them together as you can see in the pic below. Any help is appreciated.
  5. Well I'm getting ready to work on my first Crank. I've been reading all the topics and learning everything I possibly can from you guys. Great info and I would be lost without it. I have nobody to teach me but what you guys have posted and trial and error. I've had my bodies ready to go for some time. They are made out of basswood. Just got an Iwata Neo dual action gravity fed and Iwata Ninja jet compressor. Createx paint and Some Etex and Devcon 2T (Got them both to figure out which I like better) Lol after 3 days of reading on here about topcoats, I still didnt know which was better. Made me a Lure turner out of a walmart rottisserie (*sp). I've been practising with airbrush for a couple days because I had never had one in my hand before. Getting ready to mix some thinner out of glass cleaner, denatured alcohol, glycerin and destilled water. Guess I'll see how she turns out...wish me luck!
  6. Flourocarbine Leaders at 50 lb test. Alot lighter than steal and virtually invisable in the water. I make my own for Musky Fishing but you can grab them on E-bay to.
  7. Thanks John for the info. Its a big help since I am jumping in blind. Found some createx at a small craft store not to far from home. Denver
  8. I am completely new at making crankbaits. I have been making musky spinners for quite some time and decided to try my hand at cranks and jerks. I just finished my first 2 crank blanks made from basswood. I have an airbrush ordered but my question is What paint do I need? I have studied on the forum and found alot of people use createx. What colors would you guys recommend for a beginner? I like the more natural Walleye and perch type patterns but firetiger type paintjobs are not out of the question. Where could I find the kit I need? Thanks for putting up with a bunch of newbie questions.
