  1. Thanks to everyone for sharing your info and knowledge! As always you guys are very helpful. Only one more question and we can move on to something else. What kind of wire do you guys use? I tried some piano wire and made a few but it seems to be way to stiff.
  2. Would I use the same wire twisting pliers for both the straight twist and barrel twist methods or do I need separate ones?
  3. Can someone please explain of what a hand wound screw eye is?? I'm only accustomed to working with pre made screw eyes
  4. Since I don't personally know anyone else who makes their own fishing lures, I was wondering how others attach screw eyes to their crank baits and when. I usually save it for the end and dab a little bit of gorilla glue to the tip before screwing them in. I've caught bass to muskie doing so without any failures yet.
  5. I've been tinkering around with the actions of crankbaits for bass and have found Vodkaman and BobP to be correct. If you want more action or your baits just isn't swimming well move the screw eye down closer to the lip. Too much action or if you want a more subtle bait move the screw eye up and away from the lip. If neither one of those is working a lip with the line tie already in the actual lip should do the trick.
  6. Black body and glow back is my favorite night time topwater color. I get my glowz at the ace hardwear by my house.
  7. RedSkullz, forgot to mention let your base coat dry well before applying the glow paint.
  8. RedSkullz, I have used Krylon Glowz many of times on crankbaits / spoons and it has worked great for me. I use EnviroTex Lite to clear over it and never had a problem. One thing I can tell you is don't apply thick coats and wait for it to dry before reapplying the next coat. At times I was too anxious to get a bait done and applyed heavy coats or did not wait for the first to dry before applying the next. What happened to me was the paint started to peel away from itself giving that crackled pattern effect. I usually spray it over a flat white base applying 5-8 light coats. I've sprayed a few light coats over fluorescent paint jobs like firetiger and that pattern shows under the paint. Pretty cool! Just don't apply to much or the pattern underneath fades into the green glow. Another problem was that I bought a can and when I used it the paint's color had a yellow tint to it. This only happened once and I must have used a dozen cans. I use a flasher off a camera to charge the paint and it lasted for some time. Hope this answers some questions.
  9. Matt, Thank you for the kind gesture. Just bought a set of syringes made for use with epoxy. Very kind of you to offer! quote name='Matt Moreau' timestamp='1308242472' post='168256'] Esox, I bought a box of 100 off ebay. they are vet ones though as I heard they are better. if you want to try some of mine I can send you a few. I never have fish eye issues.....YET! They are 3ml...kinda small but they work!
  10. THANK YOU everyone for the great advice. It seems like my suspicions where true. Was looking to save a few bucks seeing is how I have access to all the free syringes I want, but they all have black rubber on the tip of the plungers. Just bought a set made for epoxy. Thanks again for the info guys!!!
  11. I have been using envirotex lite as my top coat for sometime now without any problems. Recently I switched to a new set of plastic syringes to measure the resin and hardener. Since using the new syringes I have been getting areas where the clear coat seperates from itself leaving a bare spot in the form of small circles. I remember this happening to me years ago when I switched from old to new syringes for the measuring process and eventually it just stopped happening. I was told that it might have to do with something inside the new syringes, possibly the rubber on the plunger, that is causing this to occur . I tried cleaning them out with denatured alcohol and "rinsing" them with the resin and hardener before using them and this did not seem to help. Anyone have this problem before or have any suggestions for a solution? THANKS!
  12. looking for some suggestions on a good book about the art of making fishing lures out of wood. THANKS!
  13. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!! THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!
  14. Was wondering about some of the methods for applying DT2 and CA glue as a primer on wood baits. What brushes are used and is there a solvent that allows you to reuse the brushes on either?
