Theres are repaints of pencil plugs that i got from a friend of mine that dives the detroit river and i clean them up and repaint them so I'll try them on the ohio river as there a great bait for walleye up in michigan,if you look at the black and white one it has'nt been painted, all the other ones have new paint

    Rod's Craw

looks great it should be a killer bait
  9. I carve with a razor knife and carving tools and keep them sharp with a buffing wheel and compound, not good if your thinking of a way to carve with the kids your helping i think your better off with pre made plastic baits,You can carve with a dremal tool and bits thou alot of people do it that way
  10. you can get a single stage airbrush for under 15.00 if you look on line harbor fright carrys them for 12.00 i think, and as for cheap paint wal-mart sells water base hobby paint you can thin with furture floor wax(tile floors)and you can get it at the dollar store for just a few dollars so for under 30.00 you will have a good start at supplys, yes the single stage air brush is a little easyer to use becouse you set the air on your compresser (30 psi) then ajust the paint flow to just spray a lite mist and start painting going over the bait more then once to get a darker color, then change colors and do that one....so on and so forth
  11. If the bill was wide enough and facing to the rear it should protect the hooks some from hanging upon snags as it would hit before the hooks and deflect up over the snag then keep moving up away from it as you retreive the lure???
  12. I use red hooks on some of my baits and do great with them when my friends fishing the same bait with black hooks don't catch any?is it the bait or the hooks?I have people ask for baits with red hooks and black hooks ,all i can say is next time the fish are hitting a bait well change the hook color and see what one works better

  17. First when you seal a bait thats made of wood the fibers in the wood swell and thats why it feels rough, A light sanding after sealing with 400 grit will smooth it out. As for the detaits when i carve a bait think how to hi-lite them with your paint job so thay POP OUT at you shadows behind the gills, or a lighter color at the jaw line ,paint is a great way to make your carvings stand out be it a lure or a carving of something think of shadows and light and how it will work to your advange. Also you can thin your d2 with da and that helps too being its not so thick
