  1. Thanks guys I will round up some wheel weights and try to make a few. Cadman yes the paint helps but after a little while and hopefully a few fish the powder paint chips around where the hook goes through the head and they shake to. I know this doesn't effect the fishing but I want them to be as good as I can make them. Thanks for the help
  2. I have been pouring for a few years and have a question. I have a problem with my shakey heads the head wiggles on the hook shank after a little use. I use pure soft lead as I can get all I will ever use free, could this bee the problem? I remove them pretty quick after pouring could this cause the problem? My supply is running low and it's time to pour again just trying to get some things to try to solve this problem before I start. Thanks
  3. Thats no fair . no fair no fair no fair . I want to go .
  4. I use lacquer polytraspar and D2T on a few balsa, basswood and some plastic KO's I leave in my truck year around as samples . I live in Alabama it's been over 100 the last few days supposed to be 107 Friday and 109 saturday . I just went outside to check on them after seeing this post . They were all OK . Maybee it's just with water base paints .
  5. Very nice !! how do you keep the hooks in ? Every time I fish with live bait the hook hangers pull out , wait those aren't real shiners !!!!
  6. Works pretty good in clear water ,but I've better luck in stained water I had one over 8 and one close to seven shake off at the boat last saturday .
  7. I catch alot of fish on the lavender shad red eye shad . They dont make a square bill this color so I did !
  8. thats the bait we are talking about just calling it by the wrong name
  9. I have not tried to paint one . I use wildlife creations lacquer paint and it looks just like the simmering green I have . I have the shimmering blue green and it's not that . I have the redeye shad in that color , I don't know if the regular crankbaits are the same color .
  10. Looks like a light brown scales over white then covered in shimmering green to me .
  11. It depends on what you want your week point to be, some like light wire hooks so they will straighten out if it gets hung . If you use a smaller swivel the swivel will break when hung . I use heavy wire hooks and a #9 swivel the only time I've been hung and couldn't get it loose the swivel came apart and I got my rig back
  12. Yea mine were store bought so they were only off a little . I have only built two hand made cranks the first was out of balsa and I didn't know to add weight to the belly ! It runs strait has a good wobble dives about 5 feet and almost jumps out of the water when I stop reeling and it backs up like a champ . The second I added a belly weight hook hanger and it runs pretty good . I am ready to start building a few more and I'm sure this good luck won't hold out .
  13. I bought some baits from Jann's and painted them before testing . Some would blow out as you call it , I put a feather dressed treble on the back and it fixed it .
  14. I have a hard enuff time powder painting a shakey head and making it look smooth much less doing something like this . How about putting a light coat of whatever color you want the scales to be on after you pull off the netting then lightly sand until you can see the raised part of the first color then cure . Lot of hand work and I don't know if it will work but just a thought I had while read this post
  15. I have been doing this for the last few years . I use a 10 to 12 foot crankbait and long Line it to get it down to 20 to 23 feet . The shad in some lakes around hear are very small and smaller crankbait seems to catch them better than a big 20+ crankbait
  16. I caught them on a lake in central AL that doesnt recive a lot of fishing pressure,so I'll leave it at that . I caught a 8 11 , 6 15 ,5 10 ,5 8 and a 5 2 . Thanks guys it was a heck of a day
  17. had my best day on the water yesterday for big fish, only caught 31 but the best 5 weighed 31lbs 14ozs this was the best one .
  18. caught 1 one this bait friday it was only 1 lb but it stiil counts in my book .Thanks for all the kind words guys and all the tips and tricks .
