Tubefish; If you go to http://www.glen-L.com you will find a wealth of plans, information and help to build just about any boat you want. Their plans are easy to follow, and are full size so no lofting is needed. Boats have of course been built using just about every type of wood that grows. Two of the best woods to build a boat out of are Sitka Spruce and Fir. All plywood should be marine rated or at least exterior rated. There are several epoxy systems for sealing the hull of the boat. All are easy to use and many are oderless. Keeping an eye on the surrounding temperature when applying these products will make your life a lot easier.

I have several thousand Mustad treble hooks for sale from a tackle manufacturer that went out of business. They are size 2 and 6 and I would sell them all (I would have to count them of course) or I will sell them in any quantity you want.
