  1. I have made and fished a bunch of them. I like the American Fishing Wire #18 which is a .041 wire. Of course, there are other components that go into making a "umbrella rig". Several ways to go about it and I prefer the willowleafs on my wires. You need a head for the wires and a closed loop on the end of those wires. Even with .041 wire, you will be bending and tweaking those wires back out through the day. I think it gives the most durability and longevity.
  2. 80 bucks a cavity.......Yikes.....
  3. Made a top for mine out of stainless. I really like it. Any sheet metal shop can bend it for you. Nominal cost. Bend a back splash plus a little at the front. Glue it down with hard as nails or any construction glue. Last your lifetime and another or two. If your bench is long, you might have to search for a shop with an 8 foot metal brake. Most have a 6 foot, if your bench is 6 foot or less.
  4. Nice lam Noel. I do some hand pour lams when I don't want to mess with the twin injector and just try to keep my second color around 330. Just a bit warmer than what I shoot my single colors at. Provides good adhesion. That's about it.
  5. What works for me is put my plastics in a plastic storage container then add a few drops of worm oil and shake. Then place them in the bags. If you want scented baits, just use your desired scent.
  6. So much good "technique" here, you gotta like one of them. Find what works for you. Experiment. It's what makes our hobby addicting.
  7. Agree with too much paint. It's a fine line between having your jig too hot or too cold. If it's too cold, the paint won't stick. You'll pull it out of your fluid bed and you'll be able to see lead through the paint. Bare spots sorta. If it's too hot, the jig will smoke real bad. Paint may bubble. Eye of hook will plug with paint, usually. That's why I use a heat gun to heat my jigs. For me, it's easier to control how hot the jigs get.
  8. I like this design better. I modified the ultra minnow mold to accept a line grip swivel and a little longer shank hook. The line grip is inside the bait. It has a slimmer profile and doesn't interfere with the blade. Here's a pic.
  9. I wonder, with the right sized flat end mill, if it couldn't be modified without chances of flashing?
  10. "Yea its not one mold though its the whole order so 8 cavities of the 702 craw and 12 cavities of the tip claw molds too" Ouch.
  11. I'd certainly take some if it comes to fruition. Didn't know what you guys were talking about, at first.
  12. I just get more consistent vibration with the blade bent. I can retrieve it slower with good vibration, in other words. Just slow rolling that puppy along the bottom or right over the top of riprap just touching the tops of the rock every once in a while. Dynamite! Hang on!
  13. I use a Teflon pin and pull it back to where it is even with the cavity so the lead won't run into the weed guard slot. You can also take a razor blade and cut the angle of the end of the pin just so where it will lay in flush with the cavity. Really no trimming if you do it correctly.
  14. I've always had great service from Barlows. Seems like the day I place an order, they fill it and get it in the mail same day or next day, if Iplace the order late.
  15. Yes, there is another that doesn't take the Trokar. It's the FBB-6-SLA. Takes the Mustad 32798 hook. I like the EL2798BP as a direct replacement. Fish these a bunch and really like them.

    Question

If you bake your jigs and heat set the powder paint with the pins still in, it's a bugger removing the paint off your pins for reuse.
  17. I'd say Shawn Collins makes the most off shore customs of anybody. He has a website. Chris out of Kasilof makes some killer stuff with his molds. He might offer some first hand knowledge. Here's a link to Shawn. http://shawncollinscustoms.net
  18. I might have put a 5/0 in it. It would hold one, I believe. I did a bunch of 4/0 gamis in it and no problems there. It holds well.
  19. Griffen Montana Mongoose. Smalljaw turned me on to the Griffen and I really like it. It's a cam lock, true rotary, and lifetime warranty. Nice case. You'll have to add just a little to that 150.- though. They can be had for less than 200 off eBay.
  20. I'm like WD. I just hang mine on the existing rack. I even put A Rigs and spinnerbaits on it. No mods needed.
  21. I'm with Alsworms. Depends on the mold. If it's a worm or senko, maybe a grub, something where the bait isn't oriented on its side in the mold, you can hand pour the body one color, close the mold and inject your second color. This makes a nice laminated bait and you only need a single injector. If you use your imagination, you can get more than two colors this way. I have seen both halves hand poured, mold closed, then inject the middle. That's injecting 401!
  22. That looks good, Joel. I'd fish it.
  23. I use a good quality sprue cutter. Xuron is the Mfg. they cut close and clean. When I want to dress the area, I just take a file and hit it once. Doesn't create a lot of dust. Looks like you are removing a lot of lead with your method.
  24. Buying is easy. Organizing is the hard part. Congratulations on the hooks.
