Sure a lot of ways to skin this cat. Where there's a will, there is probably going to be a way if you have a space to work and a way to vent outside. Sounds like you have a nice plan and good luck.

A good many of us don't sell so we don't have a tax number. As WD does, I shop around and more times than not, Jon Barlow gets my hook business.

A lot of different production methods and a lot of ways to handle sprues. Some guys leave all their sprues on and hang baits to cure for a couple weeks. Depending on their production volume, this makes for a bunch of sprues on hand.

Bobs tackle shack has it. It's still produced. BTS.com, I think.

The link provided said the auction ended like you bought the one he had. Also a Google search didn't turn up any reputable supplier, as far as I could tell. Thanks for the offer, wax works great for me.

It smokes but it removes all dross and fine particles better then Frankford arsenal. I've used it 10 minutes after using F.A. and I was surprise w/ all the dross that came out. Now that i have 2 tubes ordered,I'll use the vital flux everytime, all the time.
That's great, but it looks to be a product not readily available anymore. Your buying old stock of eBay. Also, every time you heat and reflux you get more dross. Is this product really a solution or a rabbit?

I buy from Rattrap bait company. Bubba Robinson is the proprietor. 863/967-2148. Ask Bubba to email you his tab list. His email is rattrap2@verizon.net. I think his minimum is 100 tabs. No website or pics of product though. Good prices and friendly service.

I just use Gulf parrafin wax as it is readily available in your favorite grocery store. Works good and your not paying for a candle. You can find it in the canning section.

You want silicone tabs?

Frank, those are eggcellent! :-)

Tackle Warehouse shows these baits in stock.
A friend of mine uses a lot of Strike King elaztech in a Z Too which is a 4.5" jerkbait. Out of curiosity, I looked for them in Bass Pro a couple weeks ago and didn't find any elaztech. Maybe they just aren't carrying this stuff anymore.
-
I heard no more elaztech. No verifiable info though. These bait companies and patents and rights and agreements we know nothing about and don't have the time or interests to keep up with. Maybe someone with the real skinny will post it up. How about elaztech recipe? Now that would be awesome! :-)

Any chance you have another handle?

Very nice Mooki. I remember now you having a problem finding lead in Sweden. I see now why you need precise control.
-
Looks like a jam up job with a PID and all. Powder is the one thing I've found that's not too sensitive though.
-
Yes, I'm thinking you have to remove a whole lot more material. That in itself is more difficult. Not something that can't be done, just kicks the difficulty up a notch.

I'm sorry guys, I see this is posted in soft plastics. My post referred to modifying lead molds in taking handles off. Usually I modify a lead mold to take a different hook, maybe add a swivel or something. Modifying a plastic mold is a whole different animal.
-
I've had good results with ball end mill and flat end mills, also. Use a drill press and take the handles off your mold and square up your mold in a drill press vise. Go slow and the drill press vise's weight will help keep the mold from walking. Easier to manipulate this way.

I definitely agree with the statement[ you may need to adjust]. When you see a color wrapping around another it is to hot. Just cool it down maybe five degrees and shoot again. Controlling temp is defiantly a challenge but each person has a different way and no mater what number you shoot you will learn to tell when one is cooloer than the other or viscosity is different. I guess I just shoot it so much it is easy for me to see what is going on.
Thanks guys. Appreciate the replies and information. I don't laminate all that much but hopefully this will help when I do. Probably need to check my temps with a secondary thermometer as opposed to blindly trusting the PID controllers, also.

Thanks RayburnGuy. YEP, that's the one I bought on Ebay in the hopes that I can get someone to make me a mold using that as an example.
I bet you can. The price might water your eyes a little bit. Just depends on how bad you want one.
-
Interesting, Frank. I'll certainly give that a go next time I lam this bait. These baits were shot anywhere from 290 to 320 just to see if different temps would make a difference but both colors were adjusted the same as I always keep them together. I'm running stirrers and PID controllers, so not much heat differential. So how much differential are you talking about? 20, 30, 40 degrees?
-
I inject dual colors everyday and I never have any issues with colors blending. I'm also not grasping shooting your plastic below 340. I always shoot at 350 and I never have any problems with colors separating etc. I shoot up to 4-5 molds at one time.
Shot these today with a twin injector and it seems the colors mixed a bit. This is Do Its Wutz It 5". I tried a lot of different things to get more separation of my colors but ran out of ideas and plastic at the same time. One side was a little better than the other but as you progress down toward the tail things get worse. I dunno? Any ideas on what may be the issue?

Eastwood just sent me a TV deal email and they have their oven on sale today for 89.99 and free shipping.

Being that's a retail piece, I just did a very cursory search and J. Barlow has them up to two ounce size at 6.27 a hundred. .06 a piece isn't bad. Very easily made though, as Od said.

So, your getting partial pours. Heat your mold up first by laying it on your pot while your lead is heating. You can take a propane torch to it, also. I do this a lot. Increase your pure lead content. Couple of other things but give those a try first.
