  1. I'm sorry guys, I see this is posted in soft plastics. My post referred to modifying lead molds in taking handles off. Usually I modify a lead mold to take a different hook, maybe add a swivel or something. Modifying a plastic mold is a whole different animal.
  2. I've had good results with ball end mill and flat end mills, also. Use a drill press and take the handles off your mold and square up your mold in a drill press vise. Go slow and the drill press vise's weight will help keep the mold from walking. Easier to manipulate this way.
  3. Thanks guys. Appreciate the replies and information. I don't laminate all that much but hopefully this will help when I do. Probably need to check my temps with a secondary thermometer as opposed to blindly trusting the PID controllers, also.
  4. I bet you can. The price might water your eyes a little bit. Just depends on how bad you want one.
  5. Interesting, Frank. I'll certainly give that a go next time I lam this bait. These baits were shot anywhere from 290 to 320 just to see if different temps would make a difference but both colors were adjusted the same as I always keep them together. I'm running stirrers and PID controllers, so not much heat differential. So how much differential are you talking about? 20, 30, 40 degrees?
  6. Shot these today with a twin injector and it seems the colors mixed a bit. This is Do Its Wutz It 5". I tried a lot of different things to get more separation of my colors but ran out of ideas and plastic at the same time. One side was a little better than the other but as you progress down toward the tail things get worse. I dunno? Any ideas on what may be the issue?
  7. Eastwood just sent me a TV deal email and they have their oven on sale today for 89.99 and free shipping.
  8. Being that's a retail piece, I just did a very cursory search and J. Barlow has them up to two ounce size at 6.27 a hundred. .06 a piece isn't bad. Very easily made though, as Od said.
  9. This has been discussed here and what was said is Z man has a patent on how the blade attaches directly to hook. So to sell their baits, guys attach it in different ways. Some prefer using a cross eye hook and a split ring. Smalljaw told me he gets better action with them like this. Also the hooks are difficult, somewhat, to open and you'll break some.
  10. I've caught a lot of fish on the Arkie made into a bladed jig. You can't go wrong with it. I'd say it would be personal preference. Just remember to bend your blade BEFORE you put it on your jig and close the eye.
  11. Mark, what I do is pour the jig then open the eye. I may be able to help you. Send me a PM what your looking for and qty. you need.
  12. ^^^^this^^^^ If you want, I can lead you to a thread where major burns are attributed to a injector not made for plastic. This stuff is dang hot and you don't want it on you. 350+ burns to the bone.
  13. My fishing buddy fishes these quite often as we fish together. I will choose a different bait so the fish see something different. If the fishing gets tough, most times we'll throw something different. More times than not, he will catch more fish on that little 4" Brush hog than I will on anything else. Especially on those tough days. Wears me out with that little rascal.
  14. I have a lot of respect for you guys that do this as income. I enjoy it,as a hobby and catching fish on the things I produce. It's a lot of time consumption, not that it's hard work. Certainly enjoyable for me. I'll be keeping my day job though.
  15. FF, you mostly Texas rig them?
  16. Yes, I still hook my air up. You still need it to fluidize your powder. You won't have to figure out what filter works best for this powder or that powder. I use three or four layers of newsprint and rarely change it.
  17. The little vibrator kicks pretty hard so I put my fluid bed on a cloth and position my pump and hose to keep my bed positioned where I want it. Also, you probably don't want to put as much powder in your fluid bed as you did before. No more volcanoes....just powder paint nirvana. :-)
  18. If everything is the same, gotta be the heat, I would think. Is that all they replaced?
  19. I buy all my powder from them. That said, let me turn you guys on to a small device that will solve all your fluidizing issues. Using this, you'll never have to search for a filter that will work for this paint, but another takes this filter. The photo is of an automatic pot stirrer you can buy off Amazon. It has little legs that you can take off the part you want. What you want is the vibrator. It's cheap, it's readily available, and it works. The second photo is of it attached to my fluid bed. This little gizmo has three speeds and operates on triple a batteries. They last a long time too. I think I replaced the batteries after a years use. Depending on your usage, YMMV. I just attach it to my fluid bed with a zip tie. When you need to cut it off and reattach. Hope this solves some issues for you guys. I know it has, for me.
  20. No secrets here with me. Over the years, I've had a lot of help in tacklecrafting and I thank all of you guys for helping me along. Anyway, do it's HD Sinking Additive is two tablespoons per 4 ounces of plastic. I use it in medium plastic. It seems to have softener in it so don't add any softener even if you add salt to taste. Again, it will make your baits more durable, if you can deal with the affect it has on colors. A whole new discussion would be the effect it has on colors. Confusing affects and effects, I know :-)
  21. DIC is Do It Corporation in my redneck abbreviation. It's their additive and it will make your baits more durable if you can deal with the color effects. It will make your Senkos and flipping baits sink also. Salt will make them sink but also make your baits less durable.
  22. This is just a guess but after looking at these jigs, here's an idea. No warranty.. I'm thinking dip and bake your base color. Then use the powder liquid to liquify your powder. Load a stiff brush with the liquid powder and after reheating the jig, splatter it by pulling the stiff brush back with your thumb loaded with liquid powder and let go. Then bake again. Haven't tried it but may.
  23. Here you go. https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/pig_lead
  24. I've wondered about this process. Can you tell us about your experience?
  25. Depends on how many you need.
