Fluid bed.
Since you’re using a fluid bed, follow the advice of jigman. Cooler temps and quick dips. Once you dip, hit that jig on the side of your fluid bed down on the hook to knock any excess paint off it. Count your seconds in the heat and use as few seconds as you can to get a thin coat on it. If it’s too cool, the powder paint won’t stick. Half on one side, half on the other.

Are you dipping straight from the jar or using a fluid bed?

The reason I moved away from Devcon 2 ton was the working time. Seemed short and restrictive. JMHO.

I couldn’t watch the livestream last night but just finished the replay. Cant thank Smalljaw enough for all the instruction he’s given over the years to guys and gals in the tackle craft hobby and small business. Big thanks to Cuda for putting Dan on. It was really nice to see the interview and faces. Looking forward to the Spinnerbait edition!!!!

I haven’t noticed any reaction. I don’t store any of it together really but I never remove my soft plastics from my jig heads and think if any negative reaction happened, I would have seen it.

Thanks for letting us know, smalljaw. I love watching you work and learn something every time from your videos.

Really nice. Love the colors.

Hard to beat this one. I use a turner after I coat. A little xylene will keep it from gassing in thicker areas like around the eyes. It’s a MCU (moisture cure urethane) and you should use the tap the can method to keep a quart for a long time. Just use MCU and tap the can in the search to learn about these techniques/products.

Here ya go, Mike.

Dan, that’s a beautiful bait. Well done with a lot of thought. One question. How many Musky can you land on a large Maribor before it’s tired/retired?

We recognize this is frustrating, but we do try to be upfront and honest about it. We're also always looking for ways to better serve all of you, so if we can identify a way to fulfill smaller orders without losing money on every one, we'll certainly make it an option.

And this is important to me. Having this dialogue and the owners come here and help in our tacklecrafting is priceless, IMO. They answer questions, fit and post a series of hooks that fit in the molds we order. If I called and asked to speak with Matt, he would prolly take my call. I can’t complain about that kind of customer service. Thanks Matt for being a member here.

He says the last color he dips into(emphasis here) is silver crinkle powder paint. He also states he has a couple you tube videos that shows how he does it. Might try to search those out. Keep us posted.

Possibly for a single cavity. I think there’s a sticky with moldmakers on here. Just try them. Maybe type open pour in their search bars.

Lurecraft, which is part of LurePartsOnline(LPO) has a lot of open pours molds that are relatively inexpensive and possibly what you are looking for. Here’s a link. Give them a look and see if they may have it.

Apdriver, I got sidetracked when my daughter, her husband, and their two very small boys all got Covid, so I haven't tried to do it yet.
They are all fine now, so I have no more excuses.
No problem at all, Mark. Sometimes life, work and many other things get in the way of our hobby. Glad they are all doing well. Still interested in your success or failures on this deal. I haven’t been able to make any baits in awhile.
-
I’ve called Zeiners and put in an order and didn’t have any problems. I’ve had excellent service from Mr Barlows, also. IMO, we have some pretty good retailers that supply our hobby. My gut feeling is call around and see if anyone has what you want in stock as some molds are hard to get right now.
-
Prolly not. I know they remove stuff when it’s unavailable. Try Zeiners, he may have some.

That’s a really nice find and especially if you picked it up reasonable. Those things exhaust a lot of air and should keep you safe for all your tacklecrafting. Congrats on the upgrade!

I remember a thread on here about this very thing. It was a jig with what looked like a lip like a crank bait but someone had custom made the lip out of either an Indiana blade or Colorado blade and inserted that into a lead head. I searched for a pic which I thought I may have saved and searched for the thread but couldn’t find anything. Is that what you are looking for, Damon?

There’s been a couple people looking to buy a few. I think they call it Gator Tail Worm. Type in Ditto in the search and you can pull up those threads. Might give you some leads or info. Good luck.

They said the back part of the mold was made too flat and doesn't want to release well and I can see that being an issue
I would bet that’s your issue Chris. Heck you’ve prolly poured more lead than a plumber in the old days. Gotta be an constriction catching your lead to hold that tight. Nothing a critical eye won’t work out.

For your brush tapping, I found after loading your brush with powder paint, tap some back in your container to remove some paint off your brush. This will allow you to finesse what’s left onto the bait.
I’m leaving to powder spray to someone else. Never was any good at it:-)

Here’s a more reasonable price on that little vibratory motor.

Strange. Get an oven thermometer and make sure your thermostat is correct on your oven. The smaller toaster types are notoriously incorrect.
