  1. Hey everyone,

I'm working on my swimbaits and can't decide on which fish pattern I should do next. I've already done my rainbow trouts a couple times now and want to try something new and challenging.

The fish I'm thinking of; Native Cutthroat Trout, Brook Trout, Yellow Perch, Largemouth Bass.

I put a picture of my rainbow trout so you can see my style of painting. Also a picture of my new swimbait that is needing the paint job.

I'm leaning towards painting a cutthroat trout but still like those other fish patterns. Let me know guys, thanks.

  2. Het Fuzzy-Wuzzy,

    I have a few questions:

Out of curiosity, why did you decide to stay away from hard and flexible tails? Is there an abvious disadvantage when dealing with these types?

Also, what method did you use to attach the fur?

    Thanks!

    John

Only reason I went with Rabbit fur is because I make all my Fuzzy-Wuzzy lures out of rabbit fur. Flows so nice in the water when its wet and decided to give it a try on the swimbait tails.

As far as attaching the fur, I'm just putting some supper glue in on the top and bottom of the tail slit after i press in the fur. I'm thinking if i put the gloss finish on the part of the tail it would hold better also.

  3. Hey everyone. I'm just starting making swimbaits. I've made 3 so far and working on 2 more. I have made all of them a one solid piece, meaning i don't split it in half to add my weights or screw eyes. What are the pros and cons in doing it this way. I see mainly everyone splitting their baits in half. I've attached some pics of the three baits i've made.

  4. Oh man you guys i was furious. I had to apologize to a family because their kids heard a few swear words they shouldn't hear at that age. I was 2 seconds from going into the lake because it was probably only 20 feet from shore. Then some guy tells me it drops off really deep after 10 feet out. So now i'm making two more. One will be a floater hahahahaha.

  5. HAHA well yes it looked great in the water. Had to take off the top brown fur to make it swim correct. Worked great until it snapped off my line. Didn't notice there was a strip in my line and SNAP!!! its in the bottom of the lake now. Making Number 2 and 3 tonight.

  6. I went to both Lowe's and Home Depot and neither had small enough screw eyes in stainless steel, only zinc coated. I'm guessing zinc will work for a little but will rust in the long run. Where can I find stainless steel screw eyes?

  7. My first attempt at making a swimbait.

Decided to go with a bluegill type bait since most of the fish feed off bluegill and sunfish. Carved out of PVC molding board I got from Lowes for 20 bucks. I'm still trying to figure the easiest way to hinge it togeter without splitting it in half. Any thoughts or help on making this type of swimbait would be greatful. Thanks.
