  1. I've been using SpikeIt's hard for a saltwater bait that i've been working on. I hope to have it commercially injected within the next 6 months. My question is will a commercially injected bait be harder than a hand poured bait given the same plastic is used (ex SpikeIt's Hard). I'm assuming the injected version will be pressurized during the injection and the density might be higher therefore it might be harder? or am I over thinking it?
  2. Looks really similar to Spike it's black melon.
  3. Thing with the color recipe is that at most peoples level they don't have enough funds to combat the infringement of a color recipe, so I wouldn't worry about it for the color recipe. http://www.uspto.gov/faq/trademarks.jsp Must I register my trademark? No. You can establish rights in a mark based on use of the mark in commerce, without a registration. However, owning a federal trademark registration on the Principal Register provides several important benefits. Back to top What are the benefits of federal trademark registration?Owning a federal trademark registration on the Principal Register provides several advantages, including: Public notice of your claim of ownership of the mark; A legal presumption of your ownership of the mark and your exclusive right to use the mark nationwide on or in connection with the goods/services listed in the registration; The ability to bring an action concerning the mark in federal court; The use of the U.S. registration as a basis to obtain registration in foreign countries; The ability to record the U.S. registration with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Service to prevent importation of infringing foreign goods; The right to use the federal registration symbol ®; and Listing in the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s online databases.
  4. Ask Mike of Carolina Baits. He knows. I think for hand injection you'll have to fill only the sprue...not the mold, with the first color.
  5. You can also pic up decent used microwave at a pawn shop. Save a few bucks, got my hot plate there as well.
  6. I turn off the fan, put on the mask. Measure and dump. Then close the lid over the plastisol and let the bubbles soak it up before heating it. I like the idea of pre loading the bubbles with plastisol as well. But i'm only working in prototype size applications so far.
  7. For a given plastic / plastisol durometer... are there some brands that have a higher tear strength or are they pretty similar for a given hardness of plastisol?
  8. If it can be done i'm sure someone is doing it somewhere. There is no right or wrong way to do it. Scuply works pretty good for the base. You can work it, then after it's heated you can fine sand it and even put a coat of epoxy. Then make your rtv mold etc. If your rtv is ruining your model that has laquer on it there must be something interacting between those 2.
  9. Shipping can be a pain in the butt too. I recently heard that Shopify allowed the best intregration with several shipping programs. I wont name who I use, but they want way tooo much for the simple shipping solution. It's a shopping cart site. Also, you'll begin to get numerous calls and offers to perform Search Engine Optimization for you. Don't buy into them. You're site will get to the top the old fassion way if it's a great site and get's lots of great reviews. but it won't get to the top by web SEO companies performing what they call search engine optimization. Been there, done that. There are some real tricks to SEO on and within your site though. that's worth quite a bit.
  10. For a given durometer hardness... do any of the plastisols have a higher tear strength than others or is it pretty similar? thoughts?
  11. I've been happy with it. It shrinks less than others if you are doing big bait. good clarity as well.
  12. They are probably shipping fedex. A lot of suppliers are shipping to fedex or UPS because the reduced chance for lost shipment. We pay more, but end the end there's more guarantee that it'll get there.
  13. X2 and then when it turns yellow...it's time to make some chartreuse baits or amber or bone. Don't fight the madness.
  14. i worked in a science lab in college and we used magnetic mixers. Has anyone tried that for plastisol. basically one would put the container on top of a plate. Under the plate is a spinning magnet. An additional magnet would be added inside the plastisol container... and it would begin to spin mirroring the magnet under the plate. This may or may not work. I would think it would help with smaller bottles but not sure if a strong enough magnet set could be deployed in a larger canister and the thickness of the settling may inhibit the magnets interaction. After the material is completely used one simply removes the magnet and places it in the next container. I've been happy with Spite It Pourasol. Bruce and Mike have been real helpful in helping me find a solution to a problem I was having with shrinking and stiffness.
  15. Forgot to mention coconut shrimp... there's plenty... multiple variations of both paddle tails and curl tails, quite a few straight tails now too.
  16. LOL... just pm all of us. I want that too. Not that i'll be doing it until about 4-5 months but I just as well get it started.
  17. I have used it in a hand pour and injeaction. I havent used calhoon...but i have used bear, MF, and spikeit. Hmm... i would say it's not as soft...but then again i used it with its hardner to try to get a stiff bait... it worked pretty good with that... as far as boyancy... it's soooo really close... and then it's so close that any amount of difference in glitter that you might put in it it'll be close to the others on boyancy but it might be just a little lighter..
  18. Yeah that's a tough recipe to get right... you just have to keep experimenting and keep track of how much you use each time.. I use small graduated cups and mix exactly the amounts of each item. write down each recipe then mark each different lure with a sharpe until you get it the way you want it with the hook you use. it has to be rigged the way you're going to fish it and the slightest amount of difference will cause some variation.
  19. tested it quite a bit.. do you have a specific question about it..
  20. Mike, how in the world did you burn your finger?
