  1. Some comments: I build lures up to 9.5" for striped bass. I haven't been able to get a level, pit-free,clean finish with Solarez. I've even placed lures in a spinner before exposing it to UV light in an attempt to level it -- it doesn't seem to work. I found the longer Solarez is on the lure before curing , the more the solvents in it will attack the paint (I use lacquer-based taxidermy paints). I've had some paint work bubble-up . When cured, Solarez stands up incredibly well to hook rash and gouging -- even against heavy 3/0 VMC trebles. Does anyone happen to know what can be used to thin Solarez? I had some in a dip-tube and I didn't seal the top very well, it semi-gelled.
  2. It really seems like the Createx is adhering well to itself and the Solarez if it's all peeling together. From what we know so far, the weakest part of the system seems to be between the resin and the initial Createx basecoat. Unless Solarez is chemically weaking that bond, this might be more of a basecoat issue...Maybe DN exposes that weak-link less becuase it isn't as brittle and is less likely to shatter, taking the paint with it(?) I'd like to hear your thoughts after you get the lure in your hand and you get a chance to consider the whole issue. Just wanted to say thanks as well for mentioning the problem.
  3. A-Mac, do you have any details of the peeling? Did the Solarez crack and peel -- taking the paint and exposing the primer?
  4. Thanks for the responses. All my gear is currently boxed-up, as I am in the middle of building-out a painting room in my basement, but I will ensure the nozzle and tip of my Eclipse is perfectly clean and the Polytranspar thinned a little when I try it next. I'll let you know my results. If anyone else has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Thanks again. Eric
  5. Hello, I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for airbrushing with Polytranspar, Hydro-Mist and/or Createx pearlized paints. I have been using an eclipse BCS with pressures around 50 psi. Even though it's a .50 needle. I have to open the flow all the way to keep it coming cleanly out of the tip, and I waste a tremendous amount of paint covering the lure in pearlescent basecoats. Also, the excessive volume makes it difficult to do "finer" work like a narrow band of a pearlescent color long the back of the lure. Does anyone have any suggestions about thinning, technique, equipment (like an external-mix brush) that might help blow pearlized paints with more control? Thank you in advance, Eric
  6. Hi, I was thinking of trying this as a sealer on wood lures as well, but I was wondering if the liquid that soaked into the wood would cure if UV light couldn't reach it. Have you noticed a problem with this? Eric
