Thanks Dink Master. When I did my search I only did airbrush supplies. I guess I should have been more specific.
Thanks, Jay

Hi everyone. Is there anyone in the MA or RI area that knows of a store that I can walk into to get quality water based airbrush paints? I am looking for Createx, Wicked, Life Tones ( hydro mist ) or Com-Art. I have been buying them on line and I have not seen them in any stores. If I want to buy a set its not bad, but to buy a single 2 oz bottle of a special color costs about 7 bucks !!! That's crazy!!! If anyone can tell me about a local store, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks, Jay

The tape I get from the supply house is called VentureTape. The only one they carry ( and the only one I have ever used ) is the CW tape. That is short for Cold Weather Formula. I have used it on baits that are 4" long up to the 12" and 14" baits as well. However, I always put one coat of epoxy on before I start painting because sometimes the edges do show on the smaller baits. If you are looking for other Venture tapes, they have a website. www.venturetape.com

toadfrog, Thanks for the info about the lure eyes. I am going to try that next time I get into my shop!
HAWGFAN, Thanks! On this bait I pressed the foil tape into a thick wire screen like thing that I found at a local dollar store. It was a paper organizer for a desk that I bought for a buck and just cut out the section that I needed. I have not tried gluing the netting to the bait before adding the tape like Travis suggested, but that looks great! I am going to experiment with that too!
Travis, I have seen baits similar to the one in your picture that have been listed on ebay and I could not figure how he did it. But I do now! LOL! Thank you!

I tried using HVAC tape instead of foil and it works well. It is very sticky and easily manipulated into shape and very forging around curves. It also holds a scale pattern nicely. I bought a roll of 100ft x 4" for 12 bucks at the supply house my company uses. I urge anyone to try it.

I can help you with the holographic foil. I get mine on ebay from paper street plastics. He is in NJ and ships fast and secure. He also has a large variety of colors to choose from. The first, third and fourth photos are lures I made with his material. The second photo here is just a roll of air conditioning tape. I hope this helps and good luck with the lure biz!

Hey scrubs, I also have that book and I have made quite a few of the minnow chasers. I changed them a little bit and put very basic paint jobs on them. I carved them and installed a 6 gram belly weight with a hook hanger on some. The ones here just have a basic hook hanger on the belly. Then I took the treble hook off of an inexpensive spinner and put that on the screw eye at the front. I have caught some nice Bass and trout on them. I use a fast then slow retrieve so the bait goes up and down looking like the minnow is chasing a smaller fish. You should make some. You will be glad you did! Here are some of the ones I have made.

Hey Curt, Thanks for telling me about bassfishingphotos. I just uploaded an album of some of the lures I carved this past year. Its under jgriffinglures. The first pic I loaded is the one I have on EbAy and you tube. If you can shrink it for me that would be great! Thanks a million!

Thanks for the info Griffond. I do have a google account and I will look there as well. I will have time Sunday for sure. It is supposed to rain all day here in Ma. Looks like a good day to spend in the fishing lure workshop!
Thanks again, Jay

Thanks Curt. I will try that this weekend. I am using a pic that isn't very good right now. But I would really like to use the same one that I use for my ebay and you tube accounts. Just to keep everything all the same. If you can believe this one, I am 45 and I just bought my first computer only 2 years ago so I am still learning. I will let you know when I get my good pic uploaded to bassfishingphotos.
Thanks again, Jay

Hi Curt. Thanks for the info. I am going to try that. I had to shrink this one so much you can only see 3 of the 8 lures in the picture. I will give it a try this weekend.

Hey thanks Griffond. Any help is good help. That pic shows a good starting point for me to use as far as where to have the line tie wire come up thru the lip. I have been drawing out pics of the lips with the wire close to the body of the bait and down to about the middle of the lip itself. From this pic you just posted, I have found my starting point.
Thanks,
Jay

Ok, I see what you mean now. That is another option that I have not thought of. Right now I am working on some wire thru the lip lures. The picture you just posted gives me a good idea for some of my Bass baits that I have already made and don't use that much. You know, the ones that end up in the "spare" tackle box marked "these would be great if I could get them to swim like I want them to!" HAHA! Thank you for the idea and the picture. That is going to be a winter workbench project for sure!
Thanks again,
Jay

HAHA! Sorry Ben. I won't mention that 4 letter word again. My bad!!!

WOW!!! You guys are great. I wish I found this site years ago. I hope that maybe I can help some of you guys with something in the future. I will be checking out Dieter's youtube page tonight. I would do in right now but I have one of those pesky job things I have to go to. Haha! Thanks again guys!

Hey Dieter, I just got a chance to look at the photos you uploaded. That is just what I needed. Those pictures are worth a thousand words. More important, they are going to save me a thousand hours at the work bench. ( More time for fishing )Thank you to all who replied to my post. It is greatly appreciated!

Thank you for all the help guys. Griffond, Your picture was very clear and Diemai, I like those Banana lures! I am going to give it a try and I will let everyone know how they come out. I need to make a correction. I do use lexan for the lips not plexi glass. I even went and double checked the piece I have been using. And whew, it was lexan not plexi glass. Thank you again everyone.

Hello everyone. I was wondering if anyone can give me some ideas. I make my own wooden baits and cut the dive lips out of plexi glass. I see some people doing this with the line tie going thru the lip and into the body. I have been trying to figure out how to do it this way instead of having to use screw eyes in the nose of the bait. I see that lure parts online sells the lips with a line tie already in them, but I would rather make them on my own. I guess its a lure builder pride thing. Haha! Does any one have any suggestions for me?
Thanks

Hello everyone, I am trying to upload my profile photo and I am not having much luck. I guess I need to shrink my image to only 50kb and I can't figure out how to do it. I have a mac and a Toshiba computer and can't get it smaller than 147kb. Does any body have any suggestions?
-
Great! Thanks for the info. I will check out that brand as well.

Thank you for the info guys. I am going to keep searching and trying paints until I find the brand or brands that I like best. Smith Wildlife brand is one that I haven't heard of before so I am looking there first. Thank you again guys.

Hello everyone. I was wondering if anybody has used the Life Tone line of airbrush paints? I see that they sell it in lacquer and hydro mist. So far I have used Createx, Wicked and Com-art. I like Com-art the best so far but now I have found these Life Tone paints. I just wanted to get some feedback from someone that has used them before I spend the $54.00 for the fish sampler kit.
Thanks, Jay
