  1. I am looking for a provider which offers this. I know there is a do it mold which makes a bullet head style spinnerbait in 1/8 and 1/16oz. Just cant seem to find someone who sells them. I am looking for 1/8 oz unpainted. Thanks in advance
  2. Thanks to all for your feedback ... the solution to my problem ultimately was the quality of the lead I was using. I used a new pot, ladle and a new batch of lead and almost 95%+ came out perfect. Something about the old lead just was not working.
  3. Winter is here and that means beginning to pour some jigs. I was focusing on pouring 1/2oz jig heads using my Do-IT mold 3487. It's a football jig mold which uses Trokar hooks. It also uses Mustad and Eagle Claw hooks. I am using the Mustad hooks. Here is my process 1 - warm up the lead. Flux as necessary 2 - Warm up the mold ... heat gun 3 - Do several "empty" pours ... 5 - 10 to make sure it's hot 4 - Put my hook and pour. Using a ladle. A lot of background for a simple question. I am pouring the 1/2oz and for every 5 I pour I get 1, maybe 2 which pours perfect. The issue is with the keeper area and not getting enough lead around it. Not sure what I am doing wrong ...
  4. So ... Just got my order of stuff and quickly put together a Yellow Perch Swim Jig. I love that LPO skirt. It's perfect for the Yellow Perch IMO.
  5. I am trying to find a good combination of skirt tabs which I can use to imitate a Yellow Perch. Was wondering if any of you have any suggestions. I generally buy my skirts from fishingskirts.com but I am not opposed to try elsewhere. Thanks
  6. Looks like a BassTackle Craw Mold. I have the same one. A very nice mold indeed!. http://www.basstackle.com/Craw702_Mold_p/702-1-1.htm
  7. Curious. When skirting your jigs do you use the same amount of skirt no matter what the size? Or do you vary it based on the size. Example 1/4 = 44 strands 3/8 = 55 strands Etc.
  8. That was the problem. I did do that and in the baking process the eyes were covered over. Gotta work on the "light coat" part of my process.
  9. Something a little different worked for me. I took my heat gun, heated the heck out of the tip of a 5/0 straight shank hook and picked my way through that paint. It's out finally! I had to reapply heat to get the point to penetrate the paint. Woohoo!
  10. New jig painter here. I have been working on painting some jigs and came across an issue with paint getting into the eye when I cure the lure. I try and make sure there is no paint in the eye but I guess the paint surrounding the hole is getting in there during the bake. The questions is ... how the heck do I get that paint off the eye. That stuff is hard to chip off once it's cooked.
  11. I have been doing research into pouring my own jigs. I came across this term when trying to use other hooks for which a mold was not intended. Not sure what it means. Anyone know?
  12. Thanks to all ... Definitely need some practice with this. I am getting better results with the tip provided by Smalljaw.
  13. I am assuming baking old lead for a while would also help alleviate the water trapped inside. Thoughts?
  14. Yes its the CSI Paints clear coat with glitter. Here is what I am doing ... 1 - I heat up the jig 2 - dip it into the base paint. 3 - I add a little more heat to see a gloss (if not glossy right away) 4 - Dip into the clear coat. If there isn't enough coverage I try and dip it again.
