  1. If you ever dip in KBS, dip the bait to the joint and take a brush and go around inside the joint trying to avoid the hinges. I dip tail first and hang from the line tie. I let that cure then dip the head repeating inside the joint with the brush. I took a long section of wire and made a loop on one end that goes around where the tail and body meet. Works perfectly, just stay away from the hinges with the brush. The only hinge bait I’ve painted and done this with is the  ES Flat style glide baits.

  2. I’ve been dipping mine in KBS. Dip it slow and take it to where the blank sides start to turn into the hinge. I then take a q-tip dipped into KBS and apply it inside the V cut. I dip the tail first and after that has cured, I flip it and do the head. Works well for me. No stuck hinges (yet) and entire bait is covered.

  3. To be honest there is no need to seal the threads. I whip finish 4 times by hand and do a couple of twist in the threads forming a loop, slide it over the head and tighten. I have done it for years and none of mine or my customers jigs here come untied. It works and your not paying for glue, fingernail polish, or any of that. Please try it, I think you will see it’s not needed.                                                 Edit: Unless it’s my big 1 oz hair jigs, then they get 4-5 coats of thinned Hard as Nails.I thin it so it wicks into the thread deeper.

  4. I have been tying for 10 years on a Mayfly vise I purchased online at the popular auction site. I have tied #22-24 trout hooks all the way up to 7/0 for my big hair jigs. I absolutely love the thing. 80-90 bucks online.

  5. To be honest min is  just a home made thing. I have a fish tank air pump (Milton air 200) some tubing for air line, a small valve that is screwed into a pvc pipe cut about 3” tall and my cups are pvc that fit into the 3”. The bottom of the cups have an air stone type material that air can pass through. They are simple to make and cheap if you make it. I haven’t looked online but I bet there are all types of do it yourself videos. You can also find them online at auction type sites. They work well for all your jig head or anything you can dip in the cup powder painting.

  6. I get mine just warm enough to take powder paint when dipped into a fluid bed. Nice even coverage that doesn’t add weight and doesn’t affect the action at all. If you want to darken a blade and give it a burnt metal or gun metal look you can take a torch and heat it while watching the color change. Both were mentioned above and they both work great. You can also airbrush and dip in KBS but that’s some work and can be aggravating.
