  1. Unique artworks again pickadol, nice .
  2. Hi aulrich, I remember seeing someone using testors for some sort of saltwater speed type jig .seemed to work well. I would definitely only dip a lure coated in epoxy if I was doing it again, that allows you to just clean paint off and go again till you like it. Obviously with the base colour under epoxy especially if you're going with fluorescent. Hope you get the result your after ,cheers...... glider

    Cedar cranks

Nice again all eyes, golden hued patterns are very effective patterns over here also, especially in some of our peat stained waters. Find the red cedar hard to beat for the bigger cranks .......glider

Will do, did you like the action ? Obviously goes deeper and faster when needed , I filmed the clip in a shallow pool to show the action at slow and medium speeds. I primarily troll these ones at about 2 metres. .....glider

No problem, like I say I've fairly recently had to learn some technology ,i.e computers, camera's, social media etc. (To much fishing)I am trying to get some better video, that was pretty much my first real attempt so not the best...........glider

Ddl ,I have carved many ! I make lots of gliders and originally only made the big cranks for my own personal use, I'm getting as many requests for them as I am the gliders now which is a pain because I have to hand carve them . I do have a bit of video of one of the cranks but don't know how to put on here, I think I would have to put it on youtube and then link but not being overly knowledgeable about such things I have no idea ! I do have the clip on my f.b page ,2nd video down if want to check it out or send friend request, hope I'm not breaking any rules here !.....glider

  10. Aulrich, I gave it a try with nail varnishes and it worked fine, done one with black under and one white under, the black looked best with metallic varnishes. Unfortunately I hadn't epoxy coated 1st because I just wanted to see what happened and needless to say when I tried to remove varnish to have another dip I turned the lot including undercoat and and primer into a nasty sludge so no pictures . Personally I don't have a use for this type of variegated pattern ,I think it looks hideous on a lure ,but it has possibilities for say a swirly marbled pearl/metallic belly or something. There are guy's using spray paints also on youtube. If you're going to try it I found with nail varnish you have to kind of flick it onto water surface or it can go on in thick blobs. The first colours you put down will be most prominent because you are coating lure on way down , then lift back out of clear water with no varnish on that part of surface or you will coat on top of 1st coat on way out. The varnish sort of cures on water surface into almost a sheet, much like transfer decal paper . Use enough varnish to create a sheet on surface of water that is plenty big enough to cover complete surface area of lure and then some. Worth a mess about with and certainly eye catching, but not for me .........glider

Thanks ddl, I cut the top and side profile on bandsaw 1st then mark for carving, the actual carving takes about 10 minutes. I use a chisel for this and the wood is western red cedar.......glider
  12. Ha. Aulrich I had a look and couldn't find the stuff I bought (I think it's been stolen ) .for the the furthering of T.U knowledge I picked up a couple of new bottles today ! Different sales assistant, a big old guy, looked at me funny when I asked if he thought it would suit me . Anyway,I found the original post I seen , guy used standard cheap nail varnishes, some over foil and some paint. He undercoated first with epoxy over foil or paint then epoxy over finished nail varnish dip with apparently no issues. I only picked up silver, gold and a fetching holographic and will be limited as to actual pattern ,this should be enough to see how it goes though. Ive put a quick coat of black gloss on a blank earlier and will give it a dip in a few hours. Like I say I don't see me having a great use for it but wanted to see how it would go. Will report back later.......glider

Thanks all eye's, got a couple of different patterns curing at minute . Bit of a pain in the a*** to make though.
  14. Hi aulrich, the guy I saw doing it was on a stripers fishing forum, he found various nail varnishes effective. I would imagine these are acetone or cellulose based ? Cant find article at the minute, not tried it yet so don't know how paint, nail varnish, and top coat compatibility would pan out. I actually went as far as acquiring a selection of suitable looking nail varnishes but never got round to trying it, mainly because I don't really have a use for this type of variegated pattern. He did produce some striking mother of pearl and marble type patterns, if i get time and can remember where I put things I can give it a shot if it helps, might save you an embarrassing "it's for fishing lures honest " visit to the ladies department, my local pharmacists are used to me buying some strange things over the years and just nod and say' fishing stuff ' now .
  15. Hey guy's, im not far from the Falkirk wheel, being a responsible adult I will not be tempted to attach a big glider or two and take pics , actually if I was just a tad younger and sillier I would be sorely temted to go over at night and paint the next barge in line for the 1st morning lift in a nice firetiger pattern ( obviously with water based paints, see- responsible adult now) If you hear about a man arrested for Falkirk wheel fishing lure shenanigans you'll know I've martyred myself in the name of T.U .....glider

  20. Have seen this done on saltwater lures, guy used various nail varnishes ,pearls and coloured - gave it a swirl and dipped lure, some striking patterns possible, I got hold of various colours to try it but not got round to it yet . I know many of you guys seem to be fond of lady's beauty products so your good to go ! .......glider

    Top coat Help

Raghubir, using to much heat can hasten the issue but not the likely cause ,the epoxy appears to pull away completely in places and then gathers in lumps. This is because the envirotex is trying to get away from the uncured or contaminated belly paint and has to go somewhere. Dont over do with the hair dryer /heat , a few passes 2 or 3 times 10 mins apart should be ample. To save lure for fishing with you can either sand belly lumps without going to deep into paint ,then coat. Or gentle wipe with alcohol then another coat e-tex. Its tempting to add a realy heavy coat and hope for the best ,this usually makes the problem worse. Purely for fishing with - I would give them a gentle wipe with alcohol and a light coat of e-tex and go easy with the hair dryer............glider
