  1. check out W LURE .COM they have some 7 inch version
  2. What web site can I find them on? thank you Reno
  3. DaleSW just tell her how much she could earn selling baits, when she is a teenager. Reno
  4. Use fiberglass resin coating on the sanded finished lure blank to increase the strength and durability of finished lure. One quart of resin and hardener will last a long time and can be sanded easily, primed and painted as usual. Hope this corrects the part I left out on first post. Reno
  5. I still hand carve some lures with a pocket knife, use small artist brushes to hand paint some lures entirely, shape baits by hand sanding and still love of the art of creating something out of an old cider tree ( cut up a cedar tree that fell to making lures out of) but starting using PVC for the technology or ease of use, dremel tool, electric sanders to finish shape, templates for details and a airbrush to paint, but I still love to sit on back porch and whittle a piece of wood into a bait. We have seen all the new technology grow into our hobby from wood to composite chemical boards, and we adopted a lot of this into our own creation of lures. These are just evolution steps added to our art, time marches onward, but I hope there is always someone who picks up a knife and a stick off a tree, and makes a lure to take fishing. One day, wood lures and our hobby of creating a wood lure by hand may only be seen in display as all great art needs to be saved, We all need to pass on our art and knowledge to delay the eventual lose of hand crafted lures to the ways of the future. This what I meant few weeks back, but did not clearly write. Thank everyone for showing me an error in my writing, keep our art alive and pass it on to younger kids. I plan to teach 3 year old grandson when he is able to learn, he watches me hand carve lures outside many days a week while he plays. Thank you all or Thancs Yall in Alabama, Reno
  6. Have been thinking of this problem, has to be increase of air pressure inside of baits. Checked some old swelled baits. Some were hollow, several foam filled, only happened during hot days 90+, inside Plano boxes that all lures are stored in, inside closed compartments no light, and boat not inside for boat parking, even with boat cover on boat outside swelled lures happened. Never had one swell while boat inside shop out of direct sunlight even outside temps 90+ in Alabama, shop is not air condition to control temps. The chemical compounds used to manufacture mostly produced from petroleum products. The lures have to producing a highly expandable gas and excessive inside air pressure to swell or split lures along their weakest spot, the joint where to halves are joined. I had a nearly empty closed gas can siting in direct sunlight swell up like a ballon, when opened liquid gas particles spewed out in a funnel spray pattern, got hit two feet behind nozzle, then not only did the gas hit me, but the solution to the swelling of lures. It is the chemicals used in manufacturing or glue used to join the 2 halves. Without an analysis of chemical compounds used in manufacturing, I can not be 100% positive, only by using the best observation I can to find the cause of this problem. Although I could be so very wrong. Reno
  7. I have been gone for several weeks and unable to read all the helpful replies, thank you everyone for your time and knowledge provided for this subject, grateful to all. Reno Replogle
  8. The future of lure creation moves ahead, the days of cutting and sanding wood for hours has been changed with this technology, we are seeing the very start of a new age of fishing lures, remember this day. Great work and footsteps to a wonderful future.
  9. It looks that the line ties are all below the centerline of the baits, horizontal line from nose to tail with 50% above and 50% below this line, at a point below the line any line tie would be pulling a constant upward lift on the entire lure body. I would relocate line tie to a point slightly above or at centerline to reduce the lifting affect and also increase the forward ballast to offset the natural forces of water that also produces lift or the surfacing problem. hope this helps.
  10. Size of lure body, cross section as looking at it nose first, to the width of the lip appears to have a large impact. If you look at the old Rapala shad raps they had a thin nose cross section and wide lip, that did not give you much wiggle, more of a tight shake, wider cross section on newer lures have a lot more wiggle to them. Hope this helps you find your wiggler!
  11. I have also baits swell and split and "all the baits had a foam inner core" with the foam seeming to have expanded splitting the hard plastic outer bait shell, only happens when the tempature is high 90 or above, check to see if foam filed; as heated the chemical composition produce a great internal air pressure strong enough to rupture the outer shell. Reno
  12. A problem may a raise with the fur holding water, reducing the lure actions and drag thru the retrieve will greatly increase. Check out some of the fly tying sections they should have a good material for the fur of a rat. Reno Replogle
  13. Paint fumes are a big health concern to every in the house, lots of preventive measures must be in place. You can do a search of airbrushing here, you will find a great deal of information and advise for safety and how to paint and color schemes of numerous patterns. Safety of all must be first priority. 14. HDPE boards like pvc board made for use in many outside applications, is used in construction of consoles and cabinets on offshore fishing boats for its durable and ability to standup to harsh saltwater and sun with very little maintain. It did come in 4 ft by 8 ft sheets, same as plywood, with multiple thickness, some over 1 inch that craft men used to make custom built ins using normal cabinet makers tools. This material perform well for making crank baits out of too, several years ago I kept some of the pieces from their waste cuts and used it to make baits from. My question is has anyone else used this material and know of an easy sources of material (available at most areas around Gulf coast and East coast marine). The material is also produced in normal construction sizes 1x4, 2x4, 2x2, that is great for thicker baits. Thank You, Reno Replogle
  15. check out makelure.com great how videos and products available, this is just what you need to see so much good info step by step, some products available at local stores, all online and they have entire lure kits. Reno
