Here is my setup, and the 7" pipe goes straight out the window through a piece of wood. It sticks outside the window about 2' my wife stood outside the pipe when I turned it on and it blew her hair back lol! It's moving some air. Now my problem is it's going to blow all my heat out. But I can deal with that. Ventilation of solvents are way more important.

It has the metal filter over it, will those not work?

Got my range hoo d today, gonna hang it at my window and run a 2' piece of duct pipe straight out the window. I'm going to close the window opening up with a piece of wood. I was really surprised at the air that thing moves. It sucked a piece of paper right out of my hand and stuck right to the filter. I can spray right toward that filter and this should work good to vent.

It will be vented outside thats the whole purpose. Also what do you mean paint rags outside?

Ok well I got me a hood but I'm going to somehow build a booth around it, just have to figure out the material I want to use to do that. But the hood will be my ventilation ducked to the outside of my shop.

But it takes longer for water based paints to dry. With lacquer I can paint a color and turn right around and paint on top of that color because it pretty much dries on contact. I paint a lot at one time for business, so I don't have time to sit there and wait on WB paints to dry.

Well the good thing is I can stay pretty warm. I just need to find the best way to vent the fumes and smell out of there. So you think the hood would be best way to go. Or you or anyone else suggest something better? If this was hobby I wouldn't worry about it I would use acrylics, but I use solvents due to very fast drying times and I can switch colors quick I don't have to wait to paint a different color.

This is what I've been using. It took a short piece of pvc pipe and put a Y on the end of it. I took a leaf blower and hooked the hose to the Y where it would blow outward. That created enough suction at the front where it would hold a price of paper against the opening. My paint table is right in front of my window so the pvc pipe goes right out window. The blower is outside, this works pretty dang well but the problem is it's loud and I'm constantly running the blower for quiet a while. I've just not found anything to really work. I have to keep my shop closed up to during the winter so only ventilation I have is right there at the window.

Ok so does it need to be setup where it pulls up or does it need to be where I spray toward the fan or does it matter? Seems I read somewhere fumes are heavier than air but not sure bout that

So are the range hoods you buy today explosion proof? And would buying one of those and venting it outside be the best way to go?

I've got a old stove vent hood that still works, I'm thinking about just piping it out of the shop and using something for some sides. And just using that.

Yes anglin and I know I been on this subject before. But for the life of me I just can't seem to find a setup. I would love some ideas on what would be the safest thing to do without going overboard with budget. I mean I know using the paints I use I cannot have any kind of exposed motor. That's why I have not bought one of those Made by master ect.
  16. My paint table is right In front of my shop window. I've found that booths for me is useless. I do however use lacquer, so I'm wondering if I just hold my baits up to the window with it raised and spray right out the window if that would be safe and sufficient enough?
  17. I use the krylon primer in can and I spray my molds with it, but my product sometimes comes out splotchy. And if I spray after demolding it is just not as smooith as if it's bonded into the foam. I always use a white paint base coat regardless primer or not so the foam being tan is no big deal.
  18. If anyone uses lacquer paint have you ever or can you paint straight to the foam without primer first or do you have to primer before your base coat. I'm trying to get away from priming as primer makes my paint not look as good. I've painted one without primer and it seemed to work fine. But would like to hear from someone else that uses this same stuff.
  19. Thanks yeah I think I'm getting just a little mold stretch, so hopefully the plat 55 will eliminate that.
  20. Also is the plat 55 rubber harder than the high strength 1? Thats what i use, but may need the plat 55 if its harder.
  21. My only problem is I get a good bit of flashing. I have a gate because of a piece I use to make the lip hole. A little comes out around it, but it's mainly all way around the edge of the bait. Any idea how to fix this minor issue?
  22. Ok yeah I spray my molds with same stuff , when i said primer what i meant was are they a certain brand you perfer? then I airbrush them with a pure white lacquer base coat. I use lacquer paints. Never thought of a metallic base coat though.
  23. Pretty the same process I do. What kind of primer you use? Mine is primed already with krylon when they come out.
  24. I know this is an old thread, but the Suddeth's were my dad and uncle's. I've now got my own bait business and making the Suddeth Little Earls. Still made from foam just as they were back in the day. Awesome baits that catch fish!! Check us out suddethkustombaitz.com
  25. Does anyone use this type foam, if so do you seal it or have to seal it before painting? I spray a krylon white primer in the molds I use which would bond to the foam as it cures. Then I would paint them.
