    Wakin em' up

Nice carving job. This is the first time I've heard of a wake bait. I may try to make my own. Any advice on construction?

    Marble Madness.jpg

Cedar swimmer dyed with bright blue aniline dye. Through wire construction with free moving glass marbles in the cavity. This was a learning project. The first one I made was rougher-this one was made a bit differently. The next should be better finished. I used the aniline dye because painting would have been a bear, and I liked the idea of the wood grain showing through. The next one will be red-hopefully red will not be influenced as much by the cedar's natural red coloring.

  5. I know it's a year old, but I'm new, so thanks!
  6. Use a straw. Dip in in, cover the top with your finger, then uncover the top to drop the paint into the cup.
  7. Another version-as drawn, it would be 40 3/4 in. long by about a foot high. Designed to turn lures that have the through wire already installed. Wires with almost closed loops link the lures together. The wire on the opposite end from the motor has a washer and a spring. The spring sits outside the box, between the washer and the outside wall, keeping tension on the whole assembly. Don't know if this will actually work-the spring tension has to be enough to work, but not keep the lures from turning. What might work better is adding a wooden bead right after the spring, then a skate bearing for the bead to turn on.
  8. Mine are actually 5-6 rpm, for some reason, I thought they were 3 rpm.
  9. Microwave motors are the same, actually. They spin either way and have cheap plastic insides. I've killed a few. Thanks for the link tho, can't always find ovens to rip apart.
  10. Daud, I'm finding the same problem trying to work out a one motor deal. I may have an idea, based on a photo I saw. The problem with the one I saw is that it is oriented horizontally, and takes up a LOT of floor/desk space that I don't have. I will post the Sketchup drawing within a few days. In the mean while, here is are Sketchups of an 8 motor version....
  11. Sorry BobV didn't catch your question until just now. I sprayed opaque black, then pearl purple on top of that-how much purple depends on how much you want the black to show through it. Then just lay different color pearls in specific areas, with the brush far enough away to get a nice fade with the over spray.
  12. All right, you got me. What is KBS?
  13. The cedar is great-Double T was having problems with fish eyes, maybe due to the urethane he's using to cast his lures. The instructions for Etex say to apply immediately, and use a propane torch or just breathe on it to break surface tension and let bubbles escape. I look silly breathing on the lures, but no bubbles. Sometimes I breathe into the cup while I'm mixing, it warms up the epoxy and makes it flow better. I tried letting it sit for a bit, but I didn't like the consistency-too "sticky" for me. Hey Double T, how are you making out?!
  14. Hey this is getting good, I like these pictures!
  15. Thanks Mark, I'll look for the syringes.
  16. What's this about storing the syringes in the tops of Envirotex containers? I'm tired of pouring it into cups, syringes would be neater!

  18. I use the Createx colors and love the pearls. I get the effect you want by using a black base and layering different color pearls on top. The lower squid lure was done that way...
  19. I've taken to flushing with 99% alcohol every once in a while when I'm painting. Then I run water through and continue. The alcohol is very efficient at dissolving acrylic paint, (Testor's airbrush paints). I first used it on an airbrush that was blocked, soaked the parts in alcohol overnight, cleaned everything with soap and water, and got my airbrush back. I'll also wet a tooth brush with alcohol when it's going through the airbrush, and use the toothbrush to gently clean off the needle tip and nozzle when paint starts to build up.
  20. That would have been my first choice! But somehow, I doubt many people have access to a plotter. You could go to a sign shop and let them do it for you, but I doubt it would be cost effective... Gliders, the plotter would be able to cut out individual scales, but in a pattern-on backing paper, and you'd just apply them as a single sticker. That introduces other problems, like finding the right media to cut the scales out of, and developing the correct pattern.
  21. Hmmn, maybe I've been lucky?
