  1. Sure. Just I have a pontoon boat 1 hour away with no navigation lights ports like that. I'm would be blindly making a pole of sorts for a friend for their boat and port. It's a cheaper phone or camera holder with a USB hub.
  2. They're not like a crankbait, so I can't really say they have any particular action. Adding, the trailer is customizable and that affects the action a bit or weight distribution. They mostly free fall slowly when idle. You can jerk it like a glidebait to get that sort of action. Constantly reeling them in feels more like a swimbait that darts in random directions. But you can use all different type of reeling style to get a desired effect.
  3. Done! Full gallery: https://imgur.com/a/n35iadz If you interested in purchasing any of these, you can find me under ritchietackle on ebay. Auctions for them all will be starting soon. No more of these will be made. Good luck to everyone with their tacklemaking in the future.
  4. Greetings, Thinking of a project to do with the port for a boats navigation light. But don't have my boat atm. Anyone know the standard voltage of that port? I would guess 12v, but you never know.
  5. Been a minute. Other projects popped up and I think I'm done making lures after these 10. The market has taken a dive for me. Sales were good then it just stopped. Anyway, here are some more progress pics. You can read about their design here: https://ritchietackle.com/news/
  6. Sorry, I've been away for some time. You can buy specialized airbrush paints... Or you can go to walmart etc., buy any simple acrylic paint, and thin it yourself with a Isopropyl alcohol and windex mixture. Youtube the mixture for a gist. I forget the amounts.
  7. Greetings, Awhile ago, I stopped at my father's place I discovered an ultralight spincast reel and rod. I think it is called the "Shakespeare MicroSpin MSS P46." It goes for $2 on Ebay! But I have a lot of memories with this setup as a child. So I want to fix it up, use it again, and pass it to my future son some day. Make a wooden handle for it. The rod is broken, but that is an easy replacement. The reel just needs some paint and grease. I can't really figure out how to get out the pins for the both handle and from the release lever.... If anyone knows how, I greatly appreciate it? I'm currently leaning towards brute force so I wanted to ask first. Thanks!
  8. I started out using a cheap airbrush off ebay designed to paint finger nails. XD I think it cost around $15? Nonetheless, I could paint lures with it. However, the air compressor would get hot quickly, so I 3D printed a case for it with a fan. I could run it for hours like that. I eventually got an entry level compressor to avoid that headache. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Portable-Mini-Airbrush-Air-Compressor-Kit-Set-Hose-Makeup-Cake-Tattoo-Nail-Hobby/113309712046?hash=item1a61c8feae:m:mrVB_QCXCuaTSxg2LvKpLXw&frcectupt=true https://www.amazon.com/PointZero-HP-Airbrush-Compressor-Portable/dp/B004KNDQCM/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_201_tr_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=V9NMQAJW76Y8D5VP5832 You can find them cheaper overseas or at walmart. I don't think it gets much cheaper than that to get your feet wet.
  9. For plastics, I use glass beads in a plastic or metal tube. If you don't want to make a rattle, they do sell them on DIY online tackle shops.
  10. Greetings, There is this nice and convenient lake near me. I don't want to say it's name. There are Bass, Crappie, Catfish, and Bluegill. But the Bass and Catfishing is poor. Either you get nothing or a monster. The Crappie is ok, which majority are around a dam in the center that is unreachable from the shore. The Bluegill is decent, so that is what I target when fishing this lake. One of those lakes, just killing some time, beers, relaxing in the outdoors. So I throw out a float setup for bluegill from the shore. I use mealworms and slim jims. Once my bobber hits the water, I can see turtles from all angles start heading right for my bobber. They hit my line all the time. I had two turtles get their arms and legs wrapped in my line. I'm gentle letting them go. But in all honesty, I really want to punt them into the abyss! I'm even wrapping my bait with gauss (the mesh used to cover wounds). It's really difficult to get my bait off the hook. But the turtles will pick at it until I just have to recast. I recast the other way and they're right back at it! I don't know what I can do to avoid them? So I wanted to ask. I'm thinking I might try a feeder bluegill rig? Where I can have something float the bait up from the bottom.... Maybe the turtles are used to feeding from bobbers?
  11. Greetings, I was just curious if anyone uses trailers on chatterbaits? I know they're designed to produce a certain frequency. I've tested the feel of a grub trailer and it seemed to work. But I normally don't use a trailer... To use a trailer or not on chatterbaits, tis the question?
  12. Stencils can be fairly difficult to 3D print. You have to go really slow and tune your settings to avoid stringing to get a clean result. The easiest way to go about creating a stencil is to use Fusion360 (free). Find a design online in the svg format. Import the svg into Fusion then extrude it 1 or 2mm. Export to STL. Import STL model into your slicer software. There are also stencils already available on thingiverse etc. I make stencils in PLA and use a heatgun at 100F to form it to the body of the bait. Make two sides and clamp it together. Others have made molds the bait goes into.
  13. Greetings, I think I accidentally left my Berkley rod holders for shore carp/catfishing at the lake? .... I can't find them anywhere! So I decided to make some using leftover PVC and steel rods I had laying around. They actually turned out better than the other holders given their overall size and weight. Give it a try!
  14. +1 polycarbonate. You can work it like acrylic/plexiglass, not that is has the same properties, but it is considerably more forgiving.
  15. It's been awhile. Sorry, but the lake calls... Got them cleaned up and applied a coat with Peral EX. I do this before painting because it makes a smokey-looking belly with some depth.
  16. What about a coping saw? i.e manual bandsaw
  17. Interesting. The magnet hook mechanism is very interesting! ... I'm on version one however.
  18. Do you have any references so I know what to look for. I see a lot with exposed hooks or trebles.
  19. Greetings, I love to use these frogs: I make hard baits, crankbaits, swimbaits etc. and wanted to attempt making one of these frogs ... but with a hard body. Which is an obvious issue when it comes to the hooks. It's super easy to add hooks to such a body. However, the greatest thing about the soft frog's design is it is exceptionally weedless and I wouldn't want to jeopardize that feature at all. Currently, what I'm thinking to do is ... Looking at the image - just angle the hooks up. Most fishermen who use these frogs tend to bend the hooks up anyhow. Then add two brushes like Bass jigs behind the frogs eyes. I don't know if you'd consider those brushes to be as weedless as a soft frog. I've had some snags before with Bass jigs. I do think I want to do something interesting with the tail like add a screw on trailer + the skirts. I don't know. I thought I'd ask for some advice just to review some different ideas to make a better hard frog?
  20. I think that would go a long way. That whole nature bit from 0:16 - 0:30 was beautiful with the music and focus work. I'm looking forward to the next episode! You nailed the interview parts btw.
  21. Most youtube anglers opt for the GoPro chest rig for outward shots. However, I can see you have a different shooting style rather than that blogging/selfy style. It probably wouldn't work so well when sitting down either. But you could get that perspective using technology. As a software and hardware developer, I can't help but ponder over wirelessly controlled pan/tilt ideas for a small camera like a GoPro. I'm not sure what camera you currently use. But it would essentially be a 12v motorized camera mounted on a box. The housing box clamps onto a pole, which clamps onto the back of your boat and you'd control it with a remote. As a tackle maker, I would consider making and shipping you the box that clamps onto a pole in turn for advertising of my tackle shop. It would quite an undertaking, but nothing I'm confused about or haven't done before. If that is something of interest to you, contact me at dev@mg.ritchietackle.com
  22. i've been using 3D printed stencils for quite some time. I simply print a flat pattern like hexagons or scales and use a heat gun to form the stencil around the bait which provides a really exact match with no gaps for overspray.
  23. There are different shades of "chartreuse." But I think it's just a fancy name for lime green. XD So 50%/50% yellow and green will give you something to start from.
  24. Subbed. Nice videos overall. I wish you had a second camera to catch the action going on in the water. It would be interesting to see you pull in the fish or where your casting etc. Keep it up.
  25. Ended up with this design: https://a360.co/2KODDOW Didn't work out. If you put a bullet weight on you line and flick it, the weight will move up the line. You get that with texas rigs often if you don't secure the weight. A part of my designed lure catcher is it would not slip and used a clamp to allow it to climb the line. I designed it to have more resistance as if it was falling down the line than going up. But it turns out, even a minute amount of resistance won't allow you to flick the device up the line. Let alone, enough resistance to keep the device from falling. A bit of a catch-22. I think I'm going to try a ball lock:
