  1. If you go to timber tech’s website you can get a free sample (around 6” length I think) or pay $5 for a 2ft sample. You’ll want the azek porch material not the timber tech stuff. The azek floats the timber tech sinks like a rock.

General guide line on walking baits is to place the weight back 2/3 of the body length. Assuming you’re going to have the hook facing upwards the ballast will also help the bait land and remain oriented the correct way.

  4. Jann’s Netcraft has some
  5. Mybaitshop . Com I haven’t used them personally but I’ve heard good things.
  6. I use a set up similar to Travis with a 5 rpm motor. I use straightened paper clips in the nose line tie and the rear hook hanger and clip those in the alligator clips.
  7. I use 1/4” lead wire, then baking soda and superglue or kwikwood to fill any gaps and sand.
  8. Thanks for the replies. Here’s an update: it looks like it was user error. I decided to give it another shot and it came out normal. The best I can figure is I got the ratio wrong while pouring. All is well again.
  9. I’ve used devcon quite a bit and never had any issues. I recently got some more (the 2 4.5oz bottles) and no matter how much I mix it it stays cloudy. Previously it would cloudy and then clears while mixing. I tried it on a lure last night and the finish came out cloudy instead of the usual glassy clear. I’ve tried a couple times with the same result. Can the devcon go bad? thanks for your help
  10. I cut it while the bait is still square. I clamp the block in a vice and use the edge of the vice to keep the hand saw straight.

I think you could use a silicone muffin baking pan and cut it into sections. There are regular sized and mini ones.
  12. I’ve only made walking baits from wood but I’ve placed the ballast more towards the tail end. No exact measurements but approximately 2/3 of the total length.
  13. Hey guys, I recently started making lures and have been using cotter pins epoxied in for line ties and hook hangers but I want to start using screw eyes for more security. I tried the local hardware store but they were all too big, so I will have to order on line but am unsure of the sizes. What size would you recommend for bass lures 3-5” long made of basswood? thanks
