Info On Bulding Crankbaits

I want to build flat wooden crankbaits similar to the dee bait. Should I buy the bodies or cut them myself? Should I use a wire thru design, or screw in hook hangers and line ties? Also what paint is best for these lures? I only want to build them so I can have them when I want them and not have to order them

Newbie Has Basic Questions

I have just recieved my order of lips for my cranks. I ordered wrong size because I didnt ask here first. So am I to assume that the measurements of a lip are the length x the widest part of the lip? Secondly, the lips that looked like they should be the right size seem to be too thick. Do I sand the lip down a little or do I make the slot bigger or both? I thought that if I sanded the lip down with the Dremel that it would weaken it too much. Likewise with the bait itself. This seemed to be such an easy task at first but I aint so sure now.

Shad Shapes

New to the forum and I have enjoyed reading the few posts that I have so far. Anyways, I do a lot of drop shotting for smallmouth in clear water and they love the Yamamoto shad shape baits. I am getting pretty tired of paying $8 per pack and have them last for 1 fish. I am looking to make a mold for them and start pouring them on my own as I can not find a similar bait produced by anyone. My buddy made a mold with Plaster of Paris and it came out pretty good. I am planning on doing the same. My question is this, his mold is not perfect and his baits reflect it. He is fine with it and isn't worried about it. I think that they will work and the baits aren't that bad but have a few minor imperfections. So what can I do to make sure that the mold comes out decent? Also, I will be melting down older and used baits, does that affect anything. I only need green pumpkin and shad color. So any ideas and thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I am looking to have quite a pile of these by time spring comes. Thanks in advance for the help.

Newbie Airbrushing Tips

I just purchased a single action airbrush at hobby lobby. I also purchased silver pearlescent, opaque white, black and green createx paints as well as devcon 2 ton epoxy. I can't wait to start painting, but FIRST any tips for your first time painting.

-Do you think painting eye's directly on the bait is better than buying fish eye stickers?

-Any tips for shadowing?

-How should I avoid bubbles in the epoxy?

-Are there any safety precautions I need to take?

Thanks!

Hey guys,
today i stumbled across a special kind of softplastic-lure. It seems to be super flexible but durable too. Any idea what kind of softplastic they use?
The company is "Yamashita" and the lure's name seems to be "Maria"... The original luresize on the pictures was 2.5"

What a great site. I am looking to start pouring some of my own soft plastics. I am only looking to do this for fun for me. Not looking to make money, just looking for something to kill some time during the winter months in Indiana. I am only looking to make the basics like senkos, worms, creature baits, and spider grubs. That's about all I use. However, I have no clue where to even start. I've seen several molds that I would definitely like to try. I have no idea where to buy plastic, how to make plastic, how to produces colors and scents, etc. Where do you all suggest I start?

DIY fluid bed?

I saw the other past on this but, does anyone have plans/instructions to make their own Fluid bed for powder paint? I haven't seen one up close, but they just look like a chamber to allow air through the bottom of the paint. Seems like you could just rig up an air chamber and create your own size one. I was thinking that a coffee filter may even work as the membrane for air to pass through.
I'm just curious if anyone has tried this.

General View On Selling Ko's

I just wanted to get an idea of how some of you guys felt about people selling home made lures that resemble lures that are in the market. I guess
This applies to myself. I started making various swimbaits a year ago and fishing them exclusively, and every time i meet someone they ask to see what i use and the response is very gratifiying, they ask if i sell them. This is where i hesitate because i know that what ive made is not of my own design but something i saw on the internet, though not 100% percent a true replica. I usually put my own twist on things and add more detail, different materials for tails and more realistic paint jobs. As all of you know this hobby is not exactly cheap and ive already bought a small wood shops list of power tools and recently a very nice airbrush, my intentions are not malicious and would only sell a few here and there just to bring in some coin to help me keep this hobby going. I guess i just want to hear what the general opinion is concerning my dilema.
