  3. Hey everybody, I've got a question for anybody who paints spinner blades with an airbrush: do you need to use some sort of primer or clear coat prior to painting? I fish walleye tournaments and have thousands of blades, and have recently gotten into custom painting crankbaits, and am looking into doing the same with blades. I have several patterns that I love which seem to simply have the paint sprayed directly onto the bare metal, with a clear coat over the top. I use createx paints, would just painting on the bare metal work? Thanks!!
  4. Alright guys, I Need all of your help! Does anyone know how to Custom paint a Deps Slide Swimmer 250? I have never tried to paint one and l Really want to learn. Any tips would be very helpful! Thanks Guys, Brad
  5. These are fun divers that glide through the water on some call duck feather from our farm in central Oklahoma.
  6. Can anyone tell me how companies like Rapala and Spro are making these paint jobs with such crazy detail? Are they using a computer? I have a customer who wants me to duplicate the Spro Fire Craw pattern and it’s crazy detailed! If this is a computerized wrap, how do I get into this?
  7. I've gotten into custom painting crankbaits and trying to sell them recently. I have had no issues selling them but my question is, how are so many people able to sell custom painted baits at $10 or $15 per bait? It takes me a couple hours to paint one color pattern, which makes $10 per bait hardly worth it, but with so many people offering this price there has to be a way to speed this up. What can I do to speed this up? I've been trying to paint multiple baits at a time but if someone sends me a single bait to paint, it still takes a couple hours to prime and paint. Are people using multiple airbrushes, do they know a better way than me to clean the gun between colors, will I get faster as I gain experience, what's the secret?? Seems that right now cleaning the gun between colors is what takes up the majority of my time. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
  8. hated to see these go. Thanks for looking y'all!
  9. I am looking for a flipping jig head with a horizontal line tie like below. The lead head appears to encapsulate the line tie, has a weight forward design and is a little wider than some jigs you find. I just want the jig head, no weedguard, unpainted, no skirt, with a Gamakatsu hook. 1/8" hole for weedguard is fine. 5/16oz and 1/2 oz are preferred weights with corresponding hook sizes 3/0 - 5/0 regular round bend Gamakatsu Hook. Where can I find this? I'd love to find a place or person who makes custom jig heads I can order in bulk but no luck so far. Don't want to pour my own heads, just want to paint, add weedguard and skirt.
  10. I have been painting crankbaits and clear coating them with devcon 2 part epoxy and some with Garco/DNS81 MCU's. I have a couple of cranks where the finish didn't turn out so well. My question is, how do I remove this finish so that I can re-paint the bait? Any tricks? Or should I just rough it up, prime, paint, and seal again? The devcon seems like it will be especially difficult to remove as it seems to form an egg shell type coating around the bait., whereas the MCU's seem to almost soak into the paint.

  12. I have recently purchased a Lucky Craft 1.5 DRS in the TO Shad color and the first day out with it I caught a 5 pounder, I want a cheaper way to still have a quality bait so I decided I am going to compare the real Lucky Craft to a ko. My kos will be delivered to my house in 2 or 3 days. My comparison will be based on the action, quality, internals, weight, and how many bass they will catch at the same body of water, doing the same retrieve, at the same time. I am having a really hard time believing a Lucky Craft is THAT much better them the ko when they look identical. I will post my results on this thread in a few days, post your theories or your own test results.
  13. I have poured numerous molds based off of baits that are commercially available. Does anyone here sell silicone molds for baits or custom designs? if so, i'd be interested in purchasing a few, as i'm always looking for new shapes to work with. please let me know if there's a website or if you have ones to sell. I'd be looking for solid or two piece molds, either way works.
  14. Hey Guys, This is just an idea. Why don't we have a thread in the hard bait section Just for reference photos? I think it would be an awesome idea to have everyone on the forms post there own reference photos, including pictures you have taken of fish you have caught. I think it would be cool to have a bunch of different photos of different fish from different places. What do you guys think? Thanks, Brad
  15. The lines really worked around the eyes on this one.

  18. Ok so I did my homework and searched the forum fairly well I really didn't find a thread about painting with a paint brush... Since I just tried my hand at it and found it allot tougher then I thought it was going to be I am asking who paints there baits with a paint brush? What kind of paint and brushes do you use? I know there are a few people here that do and there has got to be some tips of good ideas or bad ideas for using paint brushes.
  19. This is a lure I made for Captain Bryant of Sanibel Custom Charters in Florida. We went on one of his charters and had a great time. I made it to match his logo on his website.
  20. Here is a HotRod crankbait I made last summer. The body is a bandit 200 that was chipped up really bad. I lightly sanded, primed it white, then shot it with krylon plasticoat black. The flames were made from duct tape that had flames on it. I took a blade and cut out two of the flames and taped them to the body. I think it turned out really neat after epoxy coating and drying on the dry wheel. Let me know what you think of Little Hot Rod
  21. I am looking to get started with painting my own crankbaits and was wondering what all i needed to do it. Hoping someone could tell me all the things i need to get to get started.
