  1. Hey everybody, this is my first post here on TU, and I hope i'm not regurgitating past topics here but... I just cast my first resin glide bait, a 8.5" rainbow trout. My first casting was as a single-piece, but I decided to lay the molds out flat and try it in two pieces. The reason for this was to try and cut weight by hollowing out the front and rear sections when it had cured (which I did), then epoxy everything together. The result is still 7.5 ounces, as pictured. So, my question is: Is it possible to cut this weight of something like this down to, say, 4.5 or 5 ounces? Is there a technique/resin type that can help cut the weight down? I'm using a two-piece silicone mold based upon a hand carved wood trout design I made. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
  2. Here are two sinking glidebaits , that I've named "DaBomb" due to their shape , .......the idea for this lure was spawned by having seen a "River Run Manta" pool video years ago , the sideward glide of this lure was just amazing and I figured out , that this was because of it's stabilizing tail fin minimizing the roll of the lure on an initial jerk with the rodtip , just putting more energy into the forward glide instead of wasting the inertia into a roll . Thought about making sucha lure without an added polycarbonate fin and turned the blank with an integrated knob in the rear , from which I had carved out the fins . The initial prototype made more than three years ago caught a few fish , before I finally hung it into a tree , ...shortly after I made these two new ones ,..... but now , after sucha long time , I finally finished them , the blanks have hung in the basement untouched for more than two years ,.......this time in a crackled finish with one base color and two covering colors . The larger one sports a small diving plane , as with the first prototype I had found , that the lure has a tendency to come up towards the surface , ....so maybe the diving plane would help to maintain depth ? Here is a video of the first "DaBomb" prototype , displaying fish caught an some words of explanation,......... hopefully these two new ones would perform the same or even better(and not end up in a tree as well (LOL) : Greetz , Dieter

  6. Hi guys, first post here. I thought I’d share a swimbait I’ve been tinkering with over winter. Hoping it get smashed come pre-spawn (now only about a month away). About 16cm ( 6 1/4 inches). made from wood. I used the laminated picture method as I don’t have an airbrush (nor the skills to use one). I’ve made a Carp and Smallie imitation and have a Largie getting ready for it’s epoxy coat. Bluegill and Tilapia imitations are next The main idea behind the design was for it to run just off the bottom (when fished off a Caroliner type rig). As it’s buoyant, it actually makes a good surface lure as well – obviously without any weight on the line. Here’s a quick video of it in the pool. Hopefully thing will warm up a soon and I can take it out for some bass.

  10. Been a long time lurker on this site, and figured I'd finally say hello. Name's Kenny, and I've been making lures for about a year now, and I learned a LOT from this site. Still do every time I log in. Anyways, here's a few lures I've done: From the left, we have: a billed wake bait, a suspending multi joint bait, a glide bait, and a lunker punker knock off. Here's a gill I'm working on: And another glide bait: As you can see, I've yet to buy and airbrush, I'm scared to ruin a lure after working so hard to get them this far haha. But I gotta learn somehow. I'm thinking of the Neo CN. Is it a decent starter airbrush? I'm also in the process of making my own silicone tail mold, so I won't have to use other companies tails. Here's some video of my wake bait: And my glide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8x7efvvB8iM I'd like to get my glide bait to make a wider slalom but I'm not sure how to go about doing it. I know that bigger baits make a bigger slalom, but I don't want to really go past 8.5-9". Just gotta keep tinkering I guess. Wood is Poplar, except the wake bait, I did it in Cedar. 1.5" screw eyes, Owner Hyper Wire split rings, and Owner St-36 hooks. If I get bent out, I'll switch to 41's. Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself, throw my name out there, and maybe talk lures with some of you guys.

  12. Hi , folks , Lurefishing was dead slow yesterday , just pretty much imperfect weather for successful lure fishing ! Took this rod and lure bag along first time after years of catching dust down the basement , ......usually I prefer using lighter lures and rods to be able to lure multiple species apart from pike only , ......but some folks told me , that in these heavily pressured fishing club ponds one needs bigger lures to catch better pike , so I gave it a shot . Looks like I've still gotta wait for more fall-like weather , ........colder temps , strong winds and grey skies are much better conditions for successful lure fishing and also bigger predators over here . Anyway , nothing worked out , so I thought about doing this little clip displaying my gear : tight lines , diemai
  13. Hi there , folks , Yesterday I've been fishing a smaller old gravel pit owned by a fishing club where I have membership . Cast and worked back a homemade "Heiddy" sinking glider(in Europe we call it a jerkbait)for the third time and suddenly had a fish on , ..........after hauling back twice to set the hooks I've felt secure enough to try and capture the event on film and picked out my camera from my jacket's chest pocket . In expectation to have hooked a small pike , which is the typical target species for glidebaits over here(well , not only small ones ) , I was pretty much surprised to see a nice zander(close relative of your American walleye) surface and suddenly became very anxious that I might still loose it in the end , ........I did not even know , that this species was stocked in that pond , and usually they hardly take such kinda lures as well . But everything went on fine and I was able to land that well fed fish of 27" length , ......good average size but big for that pond , I suppose . This catch was the only one for that session yesterday , but it surely made my day ! But such attempts filming fighting fish after having hooked them could also go terribly wrong , as I've experienced a few months ago : But this time it worked out , ......here is another picture of the zander and lure ! greetz , diemai
