  4. Marketing Tips?

Hey everyone, this is my first post here but I haven't been making Baits long. A little over a year probably. But I have 3 kids at home and I look at this as something fun to do and it helps pay bills and put food on the table. However, the problem I am having is in only making enough money to buy the supplies I need such as plastic, glitter, etc. each month. So I'm only breaking even. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on marketing, and getting the name out there so I can sell more baits. They are quality baits and people who buy are usually repeat customers but I'm not turning a decent profit. Thanks in advance!

  8. Bait Maker Survey

Hey guys, I figured this would be the perfect place for me to reach out to you guys who make soft plastic baits. I am a senior Industrial Design student at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA conducting research for my senior thesis project. My goal is to research the methods of the at-home (soft plastic) lure maker in an attempt to make the process safer and more efficient in the home workspace. Aside from being a student, I am also the product designer for Optimum Baits and a freelance designer for several other lure companies. While I do have a prototyping space of my own, all of the actual production of the designs are carried out at a large scale. This does not provide me with much insight for my project. From what I have seen in this group, there are some extremely gifted and creative people in here. Any of your input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time.

  12. New Here

Hi to soft plastics. I ice fish, kayak fish, fly fish, and tie flies. This is the next logical step for me. Building rods hasn't really interested me yet. I've started with the Do-it $200 starter kit plus some additional molds, glitters, and my favorite color Purple. I picked up a 900W microwave at Wally World and have a well ventilated work area in my garage. I should be pouring by the weekend. Thank you for all your great info safe! Scott
  13. First Muskie Bait

So I've been making lures for about a year now and finally got arou to making a Muskie lure. It's based off of the large bulldawg and medusa style baits just with a slimmer profile. This is literally the first pour of my mold so it's still missing fins and I didn't put a harness in it. Let me know what you guys think!

  15. Hey Guys, First off, new member here. Been using this site as a great resource for planning the launch of a lure company! I wanted to ask for some feedback on spin casting vs. injection molding for producing soft plastics. What are the pros and cons of each? If our company is successful and we start cranking out large quantities, we will for sure be doing injection molding. But in looking for a more affordable option to get our product to market we came across spin casting. It seems like a possible alternative at least in the early days when we are testing products to see if they even sell. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!
  16. Question: I see that most of these recipes are showing drops of color added. Since a big drop and little drop can very drastically does anyone out there use milliliters or cc's in their recipes? I would think using a syringe with these markings would make the colors much more consistent, and once you counted drops per milliliter you could even convert them in these formulas and make it quicker and easier. Any thoughts? Thanks, Kenneth
  17. Rookie

What a great site. I am looking to start pouring some of my own soft plastics. I am only looking to do this for fun for me. Not looking to make money, just looking for something to kill some time during the winter months in Indiana. I am only looking to make the basics like senkos, worms, creature baits, and spider grubs. That's about all I use. However, I have no clue where to even start. I've seen several molds that I would definitely like to try. I have no idea where to buy plastic, how to make plastic, how to produces colors and scents, etc. Where do you all suggest I start?
